With delegates coming from as far away as South Africa, Canada, USA, Korea and Japan, together with all of Europe represented, the Sticky Fingers hosted Small Size - Big Festival held in Newry from the 6th to the 9th of February will certainly give us all the opportunity to raise the profile of Newry, our Small City with a Big Heart.
Twenty events will run during the four days for children of different age groups with a mixture of local children's theatre and groups from throughout Europe performing, as well as a night performance at Narrow Water Castle from Sticky Fingers themselves.
Sticky Fingers was established in 2002 to promote and develop high quality arts and cultural events, bringing art, music, theatre, digital media, dance, storytelling and major artistic events to children and families across Ireland.
They are an award-winning arts organisation and are supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
They believe that it is every child’s right to take part in and enjoy arts events and are proud to be giving children the opportunity to experience specially devised performances, probably for the first time of their young lives, close to home.
Small size, big festival closes the "Small size, big citizens' project, conceived and developed by Small size, the European Network for the diffusion of performing arts for early childhood.
This unique project involved and wove together artistic and cultural organisations from 12 European countries.
Now after five years of intensive activities (productions, workshops, meetings, publications, exhibitions and many other events aimed at spreading a culture of arts and early childhood), it ends with a big final festival hosted right here in Newry!

Searching Finding Friends from HELIOS Theater, Germany
Opening the mouth, rolling the tongue, pressing the lips together – sounds start flowing. Sounds and letters and words and rhymes. What a wonderful toy! One can whisper to each other or shout something - quick quick and there is rhythm. And you can even sing. A little tune. Together.
There are too looking for a friend - a real one. But how do you find him? And where? How does he reveal himself as such? They look everywhere and finally...they find him, no, they found each other – yes, friend found!

Moondance from Sticky Fingers
As the sun goes down, the creatures that live in the Mournes come to life to play and dance with the moon. Join them in a stunning setting to witness and be part of a spectacular and magical experience through lights in the grounds of Narrow Water Castle.
There will be magic, lights, music and of course, surprises!
Age range: All ages (DRESS FOR OUTDOOR)

Mirage in an EGG from Teatrul Ion Creanga Romania
Stepping, through a tiny entrance, into the universe of imagination, children discover the world with the help of a miracle built out of colour, music, body language and all sorts of sounds that interconnect the real and the fantasy lands.
“Mirage in an EGG” invites the youngest audience to a captivating adventure into childhood’s land of the imaginary.
Age range: 1-4 years

Little Red Riding Hood from La Baracca - Testoni Ragazzi Italy
On stage, the two actors tell us the popular tale of Little Red Riding Hood, taking turns to play all the roles, and both willing to be the wolf. Together with few, essential elements (a red pillow, a basket and some bushes), they take the audience to the places of the story. By running away and chasing each other, the characters retrace Little Red Riding Hood’s path in the woods, to finally enter the wolf’s belly. And when they come out, they will be willing to tell the story again, just like children do when they ask their mother to read it again once it is finished.

Explore, Engage, Enjoy from Ulster Folk and Transport Museum Northern Ireland
Come and experience the Ulster Folk & Transport Museum on your door step! Come along and experience living history and a way of life from 100 years ago. Try on costumes from the time of Titanic, watch how soda bread was cooked on the griddle or learn how to make a seasonal love token or a willow star.
