O'Hagan Properties officially launched a new 35 home housing scheme in Ballyholland this week with local Councillor Karen McKevitt and local residents involved in naming the new scheme. Caiseal Court on the Ballyholland Road, Newry is a new development of 35 homes including semi detached and detached 3, 4 and 5 bedroom homes. Prices for the new homes start from £149, 950 and already eight homes have been booked ‘off plan’ and building has commenced on site.
Built and managed by local construction firm O'Hagan Group, the homes are built to a high specification, incorporating eco-features for energy efficiency, and are designed to meet the needs of modern families. Peadar O Hagan of O Hagan Properties says: “We are committed to maintaining our reputation for creating high quality housing to meet the needs of families in the area and this development is no exception. We also wanted the local community to embrace the new development and that’s why we involved local residents in choosing a name.”

Properties contacted Ballyholland Councillor Karen McKevitt (SDLP) to speak to local residents about an appropriate name for the development. Karen explains: “I chatted to a number of people about the area where the development is and the history connected with it. Local author Madge McDonald and local historian Anne McAteer both contributed to the final name by piecing together the history and the Irish place names and point of references used by locals over the years. “Ballyholland itself means Caiseal (big rock or ditch). Historically, it was common for locals to give place names in Gaelic which described the geography of the area or they used the name of the family who owned the land to identify the location. Often the names remained, even if the land passed out the family. “The new houses being built are overlooked by the well known Mass Rock and there is part of the lane leading to the Mass Rock which was commonly known as ‘the Caiseal’ by local people. In keeping with that tradition, the development was named Caiseal Court.

Ballyholland is a close knit community, with a fantastic primary school and the local people will offer a warm welcome to any new residents who move into Caiseal Court.” Building has commenced on site for the eight properties booked and there are eight property designs to choose from.
All properties are fitted with kitchen, bathroom, gas fire, PVC Double glazing, oil fired central heating and the gardens will be leveled and top soiled.
