Write a commentThanks to all Junior pupils who attended ‘St Colman’s Got Talent’ on Wednesday 24th March. The event was staged to coincide with Trócaire Day and was a great success. £250 was raised with £50 being paid out as prize money.

The overall winner, judged by the SVP members in S4, was Niall O’Hagan (J1) who displayed a great singing voice and indeed great composure on stage in front of hundreds of his peers.
In second place was Michael Mc Cartan and Miceal Mullin (both J2) who played the tin whistle. It was the boys’ second year in a row competing in the event and should be praised for their ‘trad’ ability.
In third place was the novelty act of Neill Jones who got the crowd pumping. Neill skipped, which in itself would be no big deal, but he did it whilst on a pogo stick, class!!
Ms Hardy’s J1 got proceedings underway with a rendition of ‘Da Do Run Run.’ The lads were dressed up in multi colours and dramatised the song, which was in Irish of course, with some great acting and well prepared props. Thanks to Ms Hardy for organising this part of the show, it really added to the event. Seamus Brady (J1) then played the fiddle for the packed house and was fantastic. He is obviously putting in big hours practicing.
After overall winner Niall O’Hagan performed, Bart Thiede (J2) played a tune on the keyboard, and like last year was a great crowd pleaser. Jordan Mackey (J1) then sang ‘The Climb’ made famous lately by Joe Mc Elderry. It takes some guts to stand up in front of so many people and sing, especially as a first year. David Boyle (J3) then followed Jordan and did a recitation of a poem he penned himself. Tiarnan Mc Gabhann (J2) and Liam Mc Greevy (J3) juggled for the audience and provided a few laughs.
Miceal Cunningham (J1) played the recorder very well and Matthew Larkin (J2) was excellent on the keyboard as well. William Oliver (J1) did a David Copperfield like Magic act and was excellent as well as Conor Barry who played the banjo with aplomb. Sean Fallon (J1) did Scór proud with a recitation which roused the crowd.
It was a great occasion and Co-ordinator Mr Rónán Mc Mahon made special mention of the SVP members in S4 who did the bulk of the work in preparing for the event. He also thanked the Music Department who provided the equipment and Ms Boyle and Ms Campbell who helped out on the day.
