On Tuesday, Mr. W.R. Bell, clerk of the Newry Union, received a cablegram announcing the death of his sister, Mrs. Catherine Emily (Kitty) Ledlie, at Normanton, North Queensland, on Christmas Day.
Deceased was the widow of the late Mr. Samuel Ledlie of Mullaglass, near Newry (brother of Mr. Wm. Ledlie, Lakeview, Loughbrickland), who early in the eighties emigrated to Australia and settled down in North Queensland, where he was extensively engaged in live stock and agricultural pursuits, up to the time of his death, which took place on the 11th February, 1914, as the result of injuries which he sustained by an accidental fall from a tree some months previously.
The late Mrs. Ledlie, who was born on the 26th of April, 1868, was married by special license at Killeavey Castle, Newry, on the 27th March, 1889, and she leaves twelve children - six sons (Harry, William, Charles, Fredrick, Samuel, and Norman), and six daughters (Elsie, Daisy, Kathleen, Lilian, Evelyn and Norma).
One of her sons, William, is at present serving with the Australian Imperial Force in France. Two of the daughters, Elsie and Daisy, came to Ireland in 1913, and are at present engaged in the nursing profession in Ulster. The deceased lady, whose mother died in Belfast on the 2nd November last, was a sister of Dr. Elizabeth Bell, Belfast, who is at present engaged on military hospital duty at Malta; MR. W.R. Bell, Clerk of the Newry Newry: and Mr John A. Bell, Killeavey Castle, Newry. Much sympathy is felt for the family and other relatives in their bereavement.
