St John Bosco Club Mass
On an otherwise wet miserable Sunday morning there was an abundance of colour in St Brigid’s Church at the 11:30 a.m. Mass.
All of the present were lifted by Fr Tony’s wonderful liturgy which provided the spiritual colour, St Catherine’s Concert Band with their beautiful music provided the audible colour and all of the Bosco members present in their club kit added the physical colour. Without doubt it was akin to a rainbow of light over the Meadow with St Brigid’s as the crock of gold at rainbows end!
With the entrance procession led by the underage players carrying gifts to be laid on the altar steps, Fr Tony placing the picture of St John Bosco in pride of place in front of the pulpit and all accompanied by St Catherine’s under the baton of Noel Mathers this was a special Annual Remembrance Mass that wraps up our special jubilee year celebrations.
The Mass brought all of the extended Bosco family together, from the young in the procession at the start of Mass, the players, parents and mentors doing the readings and bidding prayers, the Chairman and our ‘club seniors’ taking part in the Offertory Procession all led by our own Club Chaplain Fr Tony. All gathered in St Brigid’s united in remembrance and celebration. Remembering all of our deceased members and friends of St John Bosco and St Catherine’s and also celebrating a wonderful jubilee year, proudly carrying on the traditions of our founding fathers.
I may be biased, of course I’m biased, I’m the club PRO. Yesterday was one of those days when we were all gathered under the vaulted copper covered roof of St Brigid’s, among friends, united in a common purpose and you know something? It felt good and self reinforcing to be part of the best GAA club in Ireland!
St John Bosco U14’s
It’s end of season time and with that come the presentation nights. Last week it was the turn of the U14’s and the mentors under Kenny Carneige had a great line up for the celebrations on the night with club senior players Ciaran Murtagh and Paddy Magill making the presentations. U14 player of the year was Rory Mc Parland and most improved player of the year was Ronan Haughey.
St John Bosco Junior Academy
The St John Bosco Junior Academy continues every Friday from 4pm to 5pm in St Patrick's Primary School, Newry. This club initiative provides coaching for under 8 years old boys and girls and all children are welcome.
Final Curtain Call for Cathal and Kevin
Cathal Carolan and Kevin Faloon have announced that they are stepping down from senior football with the club. They are keen to state that they’re only stepping down from playing activities and are keen to work behind the scenes with the club. Club Chairman Joe Ryan stated ‘The two lads have being extremely loyal members of St John Bosco and have always given of their best. One thing is for sure we will miss them from the senior squad in 2014.’
As part of their end of playing days celebrations the lads organised a challenge match for all past players on Sunday 17th. The match and the after match celebrations in the club proved to be a very fitting ‘final curtain call’ for Cathal and Kevin.
