St John Bosco GFC Golden Jubilee Black Tie Dinner Dance is in Millers Suite, Canal Court Hotel, Newry, on Friday 25th October 2013 with tickets priced at £40. The evening will commence with a champagne reception in hotel foyer at 7:00pm
The Golden Jubilee Committee are hard at work planning for this signal event and ensuring that nothing is left to chance. Committee member Damian Ruddy stated ‘this is a very important home game for St John Bosco GAC, we’re introducing a new home kit for this match – Black Tie and we have negotiated special clearance from Croke Park for a team sheet of 500+. In the best of Bosco traditions all will get a game so I encourage everyone to get your tickets early and make sure that you’re on the Great Team of 2013!’

St John Bosco U14s
Bosco U-14 Boys travel to Ballyholland tomorrow night to play the hosts in the B Championship Semi Final. Throw in is at 6.45pm. We would urge as many of our fellow club members to come along and cheer the lads as possible.
Bosco Annual U12 Girls Tournament Sat 31st August 2013
U12 Girls Win 2nd Trophy in a week!
The Bosco U12 Girls continued their successful season by capturing a 2nd trophy in a week. The sixth year of the club’s highly successful u12 girl’s tournament saw teams from Clan na Gael, Clonduff, Saval, Dromintee, Warrenpoint and Rostrevor join the hosts in a festival of football. Over 120 girls took part and Jack Mackin Park was a great sight with flags along the boundary fence and sunshine through the day.
The Bosco team had early victories in the league format against Rostrevor and Warrenpoint (Blue) but was narrowly defeated by Clan Na Gael. In the semi final they easily accounted for Warrenpoint (White) to set up a final against Rostrevor who had beaten Dromintee in their Semi Final.
In the first half of the final the girls had a favorable wind and took an early lead through a Ciarrai Lavery point, followed by further points from Chloe Quinn and Nicola Downey. Rostrevor responded with two good points to leave the narrowest of margins between the teams and Bosco facing into a strong second half wind.
The true quality of this young team was demonstrated in the second half as they worked the ball up the pitch with crisp short passing and tagged on three more points without reply. Rostrevor tried hard to find a goal to get them back in the final but to no avail and Eden Casey, Niamh Burns and Aimee O’Hanlon were all superb at the back. Aoibheann Quinn as tournament captain stepped up to receive the trophy from Maria Fox.
In the Shield final Warrenpoint accounted for Clan Na Gael by 3 points and Captain Annie Howlett collected the trophy to much delight from her team mates and mentors.
The girls now have a chance to make it a hat trick of victories at the 16 team Carryduff Tournament on Saturday 14th September

A big thank you to everyone who helped out at the Tournament including Pat and Maria Fox, Pearce Mulholland, Simon Burke, Jim O’Hare, John Quinn, Maeve Gallagher and the Ladies senior team who acted as referees and umpires on the Day. Thanks also to all the parents who made sandwiches and catered for all the teams and mentors and to club Chairman Joe Ryan for visiting on the day. Thanks also to the Meadow and Armagh Rd Community Association for the use of the community centre.
BOSCO GIRLS TO ATTEND DOWN U13 DEVELOPMENT SQUAD
Eight of the Bosco u12s will take part in the Down u13 Development squad. They include Eden Casey, Aine McCabe, Nicola Downey, Niamh Burns, Aoibheann Quinn, Orlagh Burke, Nicole Cunningham and Traesa McKinley. They will train with the squad during September and October in preparation for representing Down at the Ulster Blitz in November this year.

Wednesday 28th August St John Bosco vs. An Riocht venue St Colman’s
A mid week game for the U10’s on the full size grass pitch with both teams fielding 17 players this was a fast, entertaining, energy sapping game of football for the U10 footballers.
With several players missing due to injury and holidays the Bosco mentors re-jigged the team and put Calim Gray and James Boyle into midfield, Pól Óg McCormack into nets, Padraig Caldwell and Rory McAleavy into defence, Cormac Flannigan at centre half forward and a full forward line of Dessie McAleavy, Aaron Downey and Cormac White.
This was a hard physical encounter for the young Bosco players who coped well with a strong An Riocht line up. With 1 minute to go James Boyle made amends for several earlier misses and 3 shots that hit the posts when he rifled a shot into the top corner to leave the sides level at the final whistle.
Sunday 1st September St John Bosco vs. Mayobridge venue Mayobridge
With 19 players St John Bosco were able to field their usual two teams Gaels and Ógs for the customary 9 or 10 a side two ‘cross field’ 30 minute games before the big game of 30 minutes full field game.
In the Ógs game captain Josh Hanna was outstanding between the posts and the full back line of Joe Hanna, and Shea Malone kept their Mayobridge players under check. Matthew Rice and Captain (birthday boy) Guy Wallace controlled mid field providing the ammunition for forwards Aaron Downey, Dessie McAleavy and Cormac White to fire over several excellent scores.
In the Gaels game Cormac White, Rory McAleavy, Aidan O’Hare and Nathan Gribben were solid at the back thwarting the Mayobridge forward line. Forwards Calum, Joshua Madigan and Johnny O’Hare piled on the pressure and despite some wonderful Mayobridge defending were able to keep the Bosco boys in front.
Wednesday 18th September Golden Jubilee Table Quiz
The St John Bosco GAC are launching a new Player’s Injury Fund to help offset expenses and loss of wages experienced by senior players due to injury sustained whilst playing for their club. To get the fund of to a flying start a table quiz will be held on Wednesday 18th September in the Canal Court Hotel. So get your teams organised and let’s ensure the night is a great success.
