Write a commentNewry Wheelers Gareth McCullough stormed home in 6th place in Joey Whyte Memorial Race in Stamullen, Co Meath. The 120km race is part of the National League Series and many of the country’s top riders were competing.
The race was a 5 lap course on very hilly terrain. Newry Wheelers Sean Featherstone & Des Woods & Jude Sands also raced and were in the thick of it from the outset. On Lap 3 McCullough got away with a group of favourites and managed to catch the small group ahead.
Commenting on the race Gareth said ‘As the race progressed more of the top riders got dropped out of the break due to constant pressure and attack’
This superb performance confirms Gareth’s return to the top of Elite cycling.

2015 Newry Wheelers Club League
The annual Newry Wheelers Club league kick started last week with Time Trial on Dual Carriageway. Sixty eight club members signed on. The fastest time recorded was a very impressive 20.51 by Sean Featherstone and fastest woman in the night was Kerri Farrell in a swift 25.06. The league will run for 11 weeks with a variety of races. The fun commences on Tuesday evening with the ‘Carrigeway Classic’.
