Ballynahinch 1's 0-6 Newry 1's

Newry started their league campaign in style with the 6-0 thrashing of Ballynahinch on Saturday, this comes hot on the tail of two wins against Mossely and Antrim in their Kirk Cup fixtures.

From the start Newry dominated and restricted Ballynahinch to the odd long ball which were quickly moped up before Newry went back on the attack. The visitors took the lead with 5 minutes gone when Jeremy Greer deflected home a David England shot from a short corner. They continued to press Ballynahinch creating more chances but were unable to get their second until near the quarter mark when great play from Colin McKnight saw him break through the 'hitch defence, rounding three defenders before laying off to Alex Irwin to slot home at the back post.

Just before the half way mark McKnight turned from creator to scorer as he rounded the keeper and fired home a reverse stick shot. Three up at half time and Newry had the game in the bag.

Newry continued to try and add to the score in the third quarter and it was McWilliams who got on the score sheet with a reverse shot from the top of the circle which the keeper found to hot to handle and could only palm into his own net. Alex Irwin got his second after a quick passing move down the right, and it could have been more however Fletcher, McKnight and Taylor were unable to apply the finishing touches. Right on the full time whistle however Colin McKnight did get his second  to leave the score 6-0.

Newry will host Cookstown in their final Kirk Cup match which will be a completely different test from Saturday, Newry will need to be at their best to take anything from this game.
