Newry hosted Mossley on Saturday with a depleted squad, however it dead not show as the home side started the better of the two teams. Newry could not find a break through and as the half wore on the visitors found their feet and started to play their way into the game winning a number of short corners but could not take advantage of them. The teams went in level at half time having cancelled each other out.
The second half was a more open and end to end affair with both sides squandering chances in front of goal. The Mossley keeper did well to save from David England and Colin McKnight from short corners and was out quick to smother a Jeremy Greer chance. Mossley again had a number of short corners of their own but were wasteful and were unable to put Mcgivern in the Newry goal under any sort of pressure. The game ended 0-0 in what both sides would see as a fair result.

Newry 2’s 2-1 Lisnagarvey 3’s
Having inflicted a heavy defeat on Lisnagarvey 4’s last week Newry were full of confidence as they face ‘Garvey 3’s on Friday evening. This confidence showed as Newry pinned the visitors back in their own half for much of the first half. David England should have put the home side ahead but he missed the target from the centre of the circle with only 5 minutes gone. ‘Garvey were the side to strike first as they broke on the counter attack and caught Newry sleeping at the back leaving 2 on 1 on Porter in the Newry goal who was helpless to stop the shot. Their lead was short lived however as David England made a mends for his earlier miss with a low hard shot which the defender could only deflect past his own keeper.
The second half seen Newry again with the majority of the possession and took the lead when Adam Fosters attempted was stopped on the line by the defenders body and a penalty stroke was award. Jeremy Greer fired home the stroke to give the Newry men the lead. Newry continued to press forward and the remainder of the game was mostly played out in the ‘Garvey half as the home side showed great match management to see out the win.

Newry Olympic Ladies 1ST XI 2– Annadale 3
On Saturday 20th February 2016, Newry Olympic Hockey Ladies 1st XI played Annadale at home in the Senior 3 Ulster Hockey League. Annadale were extremely quick to attack and were in the Newry circle, trying to score and gained the lead in the first six minutes. Annadale were awarded a couple of corners but due to the quick action of Newry goalie Gilly Roney and the strong defence of Diane McMinn-Johnston, Laura Simpson, Gayle Davidson and Alison Gamble the ball was quickly cleared out of the Newry circle. Newry began to settle and fought back hard, keeping possession for the next twenty minutes. During the last five minutes of the first half Newry found themselves under extreme pressure in the circle and unfortunately conceded another goal. At half-time the score was two nil to Annadale.
During the second half Newry continued to keep the pressure on Annadale and were awarded a number of corners. Twelve minutes into the second half Newry got their first goal from a corner, injected by Captain, Laverne Inns to mid Lynn Anderson who played the ball to Diane Mc Minn-Johnston and back again to catch the goalie off balance and scored. However ninety seconds later Annadale drove down the right hand side and scored their third goal. Newry kept their heads up, fought back hard and from the Newry 23 metre line, sweeper Laura Simpson drove up through the Annadale forwards and fed the ball through to the Newry midfield players, Suzy Rollins, Nicola Shields and Kathryn Baird who drove down into the Annadale circle and successfully were awarded a corner from which forward Aimee Magowan scored. Unfortunately Newry ran out of time and by the final whistle Annadale had won. Player of the match was Diane McMinn-Johnston in defence.
