On Saturday 25th October 2014 Newry Olympic Hockey Ladies 1st XI played South Antrim 1st XI Ladies at home in the Intermediate Cup.
From the off Newry dominated the ball and pressed high to keep the pressure on South Antrim giving them no time to settle.
Following some good play down the right, Aimee Magowan made a break into the circle and found the back of the net. South Antrim never got any time to settle and play their game with their keeper making some excellent saves which kept them in the game until the ball broke to Caralyn Ferris made no mistake finding the back of the net. Just before half time Laverne Inn scrambled the ball over the line to make it 3.

Newry continued the 2nd half the way they finished the 1st with a high tempo and pushing forward. Some good play round the edge of the circle from Chrissy McAuley saw Lynne Ervine pick up the ball and drive into the circle and smash the ball home. Newry’s 5th came from some great inter play between the girls and Caroline Madden slotting the ball in pass the South Antrim keeper. The game finished with a short corner for Newry which went to Lynne Ervine who score her 2nd and Newry’s 6th of the game.

Harlequins 3’s 1-7 Newry 3’s
Newry travelled to the Malone Road team and dominated throughout. From the off Harlequins struggled to get out of their own half as Newry pressed them at every chance controlled from the back by veteran Alan McGaffin. It wasn’t long before Newry took the lead through Michael McCullough before Mervyn McCaigue got the away sides second of the game. Mark McCullough Got in on the act as he got his first and Newry’s third of the game just before half time.
Newry didn’t start the second half as well as the first and started to become complacent in defence, allowing harlequins in for their only goal of the game. Before they could take advantage however, Michael Mcullough got his second and Newry’s 4th of the game before his son Mark, made it five. With the game more or less over it was Alan McMinn who next got on the score sheet before Glyn Elias finished the route with his first goal in two seasons.
