Newry Hockey Notes 29th February 2016

Raphoe 1’s 2-2 Newry 1’s

Newry made the long trip to Donegal to face Raphoe in their latest premier league game.  Newry were slow out of the blocks as is quiet common after the long trip.  However as the game wore on Newry started to find their feet and began creating chances but it wasn’t until a John Taylor short corner that Newry could take the lead.  At the other end Raphoe found Newry keeper Francis McGivern in great form but with 4 minutes left until half time McGivern was beaten by a low hard shot from a short corner.

In stark contrast to the first half Newry flew out of the traps lead by John Taylor who rattled in a few heavy challenges before forcing a short corner from which he got his second of the game.  The visitors looked comfortable and were managing the game well, but two quick cards reduced the Mourne men to 9 men temporarily and Raphoe were able to take advantage and get back on level terms with 6 minutes remaining.  Newry hung on and came away with a point, but will be disappointed that they could not have taken all three.
