Newry ran riot on Saturday as their season nears the end, as they thrashed Castlederg 8-0 at home. From the first whistle Newry were dominant and went in front early on as Shannon Robinson reacted first to a rebound after her initial shot from a short corner was saved. 2 goals quickly followed with Caralyn Ferris getting both. The first after rounding the keeper and the second a sweet reverse stick shot into the bottom corner. Just before the break it was 4 with Laverne Inns getting her first from a short corner.
It was a mirror image start in the second half as Robinson again scored from an early short corner to make it five. Captain Kathryn Baird then got in on the act to bag the sixth. Inns got her 2nd of the game when set up by Rachael Greer. Inns completed her hattrick when Baird ran the ball to the baseline before pulling it back for a simple tap in. Derg did not give up and broke forward a number of times however McCullough, Ervine and Simpson at the back kept them out for a clean sheet.

Mossely 4’s 3-3 Newry 2’s
Newry travelled to high flyers Mossely on Saturday in their penultimate game of the season. They started brightly with chances falling to McCafferty and Graham but both failed to convert. Eventually Newry did take the lead though when McCafferty deflected home a shot from Michael McCullough. Simon McCafferty had a golden opportunity to make it two but was wasteful when one on one with the keeper. Mossely equalised through a scrappy short corner after Beck had saved the initial shot. Michael McCullough got Newry’s second after breaking in behind the last defender who missed the ball, McCullough collected it and slotted between the keepers legs.
After the break it was three with Josh Porter continuing his good recent scoring form. Newry now had a commanding lead and should have been able to see out the game, however the homeside had different ideas and scored from another short corner with 15 minutes remaining. They got back on level terms from a penalty stroke to share the spoils in an entertaining three all draw.
