Write a commentRith 2014 the annual relay run to promote the Irish Language arrives in Newry on Friday the 14th of March.
The race will begin the day in Armagh before travelling to Camlough and then to Newry.
Armagh GAA added its support to the major national relay run when they launched Rith 2014 at last months Armagh and Down National Hurling League tie.
The run, which coincides with the international Irish language festival Seachtain na Gaeilge or Irish language week, gets underway in the Cork Gaeltacht of Baile Bhuirne on Friday 7 March, travelling around the southern and eastern coast of Ireland, cutting across into Cavan and Donegal, before moving through Tryone, Armagh and Down and finishing in Belfast on Saturday 15 March.
A special baton, containing a message from Irish President Mícheál D Ó hUiginn, is passed from group to group who sponsor and run a one kilometre leg of the relay run. Irish language groups, GAA and sports clubs, community organisations, schools and youth clubs are encouraged to take part in the relay to raise the profile of the Irish language.
Rith 2014 will visit Armagh on Friday 14 March, when it will commence at the bunscoil in the CBS Primary School at 9.30am. The run will make its way through the city centre, the Shambles, Convent Road, Nursery Road and Drumarg, finishing the Armagh city relay at the Athletic Grounds around 10.30am.
