Manchester singer and actor Wayne Devlin's haunting version of the traditional Irish classic Danny Boy has been adopted by Newry City Athletic Football Club as their new anthem.
Things have been moving fast ever since Wayne first performed the song live on air on Mike Sweeney's BBC Radio Manchester morning show.

The Irish community have taken the song to their hearts with Irish TV filming Wayne recording the track at Unit 26 recording studios at Media City, Manchester last week and Now Newry City AFC will be playing the track from the terraces.
Wayne said 'its just gone crazy, since I first performed this on the radio. The radio station was flooded with requests from listeners including the Irish community, to hear it again and again, with radio stations over here and over in Ireland asking to be sent a copy. I've even got air play and interviews lined up from stations in the Netherlands and in New York! But the icing on the cake for me is that Newry City AFC have adopted the song as their anthem. This means so much to me because my father Patrick Joseph Devlin, the man who taught me to sing, came from Newry. He would be so proud if he were alive today.'
Newry City AFC chairman Martin McLoughlin said 'We at Newry City AFC wish Wayne all the best with this fantastic version of a great song. This will be our club anthem and we will be playing it on the terraces from now on. Great to see an old Newry name 'Devlin' in the music headlines.'
