Here are some photographs from a Birthday Party in the Mid 1980's. I know some of the people but can't remember where it was or whose party it was --- as usual!

Not sure if this is Newry or not though I'm sure somebody will recognise the place or the wallpaper or the people
The negatives are a wee bit worse for wear but it's the luck of the draw!

Another film, another mix. Some interesting ones I think from the Abbey Christian Brothers School but the backgrounds seem strange to me.
A batch of photos from a Small Firms mean Business trade show quite likely organised by the Newry and Mourne Co-op and possibly in the Town Hall.
Lastly it looks like the launch of an Art Exhibition in Newry Arts Centre with plenty of food and beverages on display.
At least I lnow the year - It's 1985 and that's courtesy of the badges on some peoples lapels at the Trade Show.

Here's another batch of photographs from my 80's collection.
The first few are from a Poyntzpass night out probably a Football Club dinner dance and perhaps in the Sheepbridge.
The second batch looks like a community centre and possibly Barcroft. Quite a few familiar faces in a lot of them.

This batch has a sporting theme with a rugby team, pool players, darts players and a horsey photograph thrown in for good measure. Also some social photographs from pub unknown!

Here's a batch from the 80's again showing three bonnie babies born in Daisy Hill Hospital, think they are from Bessbrook if my memory serves me well.
Then there is a couple of sports shots, kids rugby and darts and inside views of what you could buy in an electrical shop in Newry in the 80's - Small TV for £295 anyone?

A small batch but a diverse mix. An Austin car sits with a damage to the side and a smashed window outside McIlroy's Butchers on Margaret St I think.
I don't know what the presentation photos are but I remember the Little Miss Meigh and Miss Meigh photographs
Sure how could I forget, using my good old lime green Kawasaki AR80 Motorbike as a prop in one of them. With my lime green bike, lime green helmet and lime green coat and waterproofs I cut a dapper figure whizzing through the South Armagh Countryside like a speeding radioactive Kingfisher!
How cool was I then!!!

That's what I certainly find while re-discovering my collection of negatives - All kinds of everything!
This batch shows Dana being trailed in her every move around an Ideal Homes Exhibition in Newry Town Hall in the early 1980's. I even put her on an exercise bicycle (cringe) I think this might have been where my paparazzi brand of photography started and ended!
The large crowd in one of the photos shows just how much everyone was after an "Ideal Home" in the 80's. Fresh faces include Sean and Ita McElvanna from Newry Computer Centre and Frank and Aileen Dolaghan.
Aileen who had her own framing and mounting business in WIN and I can testify to the longevity of her work as I still have a couple of her board mounted prints in the house.
I was working for the Newry and Mourne Weekly at the time, a paper that was owned by the Newry and Mourne Co-Op.
Sorry but it appears that I have spent this last 25 years walking on this particular set of negatives. It did take me a while to work out how to expose a photograph correctly and also how to develop the film without the dust of the countryside finding it's way on to it!

Here are some pics from when I was with the Newry and Mourne Weekly Newspaper at 72a Hill Street in the early 1980's. Some of the staff are included.
There are photographs of a Darts and Soccer player with their awards, a photo of a young lady outside the Town Hall, a couple of action photos from Newry Town (thank goodness my sports photography has improved a little bit!!!)
There is also a pic from Rockfort Carpets of Frank Dolaghan and Jim McCart, Council Chairman at the time and photos from a social night location unknown. It really was the heyday of the leather jacket!
