Members of the Beautiful Warrenpoint Committee have visited Randalstown on a fact-finding trip as part of efforts to improve the town's environmental and visual appeal. The trip was organised under Newry, Mourne and Down District Council's Thriving Together initiative, which is supported by PEACEPLUS funding.
Randalstown was crowned Ireland's best kept town in 2024, and the Warrenpoint delegation was given a guided walk through the town, where local representatives shared their experiences, challenges and successes in achieving and maintaining that standard. Committee members had the opportunity to see the town's award-winning approach to community collaboration, sustainability and presentation at first hand.
The visit is one of 28 projects being delivered across the District Electoral Areas as part of the council's Local Action Plan Thriving Together initiative. The programme, managed through the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB), is designed to enable and empower local community partnerships to identify and deliver priority projects. It also aims to foster stronger relationships between organisations and support the long-term sustainability of community groups and hubs across the district.
Beautiful Warrenpoint Committee Chairperson Jerome Mullan said the group was delighted to visit Randalstown and see the work that earned it the title of Ireland's Best Kept Town. "The pride of place and strong community spirit were evident throughout. We've come away with fresh ideas and renewed motivation to continue enhancing Warrenpoint for residents and visitors alike. Collaboration and learning from others is key and this visit was a fantastic example of that in action," he said.
The Beautiful Warrenpoint Committee thanked the Randalstown community for its welcome and for sharing its experience openly. Insights gathered during the visit are expected to inform future projects and initiatives as the committee continues its work in Warrenpoint.
