Write a commentSince its inception in November 2014 the Bessbrook Community Residents Association has made great strides in dealing with issues pertaining to the greater Bessbrook area.
Regular meetings have taken place with the various agencies,PSNI, NIHE, NI Water and Newry and Mourne District Council.
The committee would welcome contact from all sections of our community who would like to become involved with their commiittee or give time to assist them in achieving their goal in developing better community relations.
The committe have worked closely with the Council to ensure that the new MUGA (multi use games area) which is now being developed at Cloughervan would be developed in the lifetime of this council. This games area is now nearly completed and all are looking forward to the opening of this facility at the end of March.
An application has been made to DSD to secure a grant of £30,000 under the areas at risk programme. This grant will be used to provide various activities for young and old and within the community. A very attractive programme of activities has been submitted for consideration and it is hoped that this project will be confirmed shortly after Easter. Full details of what is being proposed will be announced later.
The committee in conjunction with councillor Roisin Mulgrew iis working hard to secure the necessary funding to retain the after school provision which is located at the Town Hall. This service is vital to Bessbrook and every effort will continue to be made to sustain this activity in the village. This after school activity has proven to be a highly successful cross community project and would have a profound affect on local families in the area if it were to be withdrawn. We would like to take this opportunity to invite all local representitives to come on board to support us at this time in relation to keeping the after school provision at the Town Hall.
The committee are also associated with the fFiends of Derrymore committee with their plans to develop a very exciting project in developing new activities and facilities at this famous location. A public consultation of the proposed drawings will be on view in Bessbrook Community Centre on Wednesday evening 25th March
A meeting took place this week with the local PSNI to discuss the proposed reduction of police cover and other services in the greater Bessbrook area. Reassurances have been given to the group that that community policing would continue at its current level and the committee have been assured regular meetings will take to update the commiittee will take place regarding any issues relating to the area.
Work is also in progress to develop youth activites for teenagers in Bessbrook on Friday evenings and the committee would be delighted to hear from any one who would like to give of their time to act as volunteers for this much needed activity. It is hoped to get this youth club in operation after the Easter period.
Sincere condolences to the McGinn family on the passing of Basil McGinn, who along with his family have served this community for many years. He will be sadly missed in the community and he will be remembered fondly.
Chairman of the Bessbrook Residents Community Association Gerard Hughes would be delighted to hear from any one in the area who has any issues or problems in relation to either housing or other matters. He would assure residents that their problem would be dealt with quickly, efficiently, and in a very professional and confidential manner.
