Council Achieves 39% Recycle Rate

In the year 2012/2013 Newry and Mourne District Council have achieved a recycling rate of 39%!

With 8 Household Recycling Centres located throughout the district recycling has never been easier and the council are encouraging the public to continue with their good work.

The Mayor Cllr Michael Ruane said, “We are very proud to have achieved a 39% recycling rate and know with the continued support of our residents we can improve on this in 2014. Newry and Mourne District Council have 8 Household Recycling Centres throughout the district where residents can recycle up to 30 different materials; so next time you are taking waste to the sites, remember to, Sort it, Bring it and Recycle it!’.

The following materials can be recycled at the Household Recycling Centres:

Greenwaste, Metal, Cardboard, plastic (e.g garden furniture), Wood, Paper, textiles, Glass bottles and jars, Domestic appliances (e.g. washing machine, cookers etc) Electrical goods (hair dryer, tv, iron etc),Fluorescent tubes and Batteries (car and household). 

So if you are clearing out your garage for summer or finishing off your spring cleaning, remember to take a trip to your local household recycling centre where you can recycle for free.
