Newry and Mourne District Council today celebrated the Irish Language in a bilingual quiz in the council Boardroom that brought together elected members and council staff.

Ceiliúradh na Gaeilge (Celebrating the Irish Language) is part of the Council’s programme for Seachtain na Gaeilge (Irish Language week) that reiterates the Council’s commitment to promoting and developing the Irish Language in the District.
The event highlights the Council’s long history of working with the local Irish Language community to protect and promote our rich linguistic heritage in this area.
As the first Council in Ireland to adopt a Bilingualism Policy, the Council is proud of its pioneering tradition of protecting and promoting the Irish Language.
This celebration of our native language ensures that both Councillors and staff engage in actively promoting the language in a social setting.
