Newry, Mourne and Down Creative businesses are being offered an incredible opportunity to attend the Arctic Design Week in Finland in February 2017. The world’s northernmost design festival is supported by the Creative Hotspot element of the Creative Momentum Project.

Taking place in Rovaniemi, inside the Arctic Circle, the week brings together Finnish and international designers for a week of seminars, networking, exhibitions and events and local businesses are being encouraged to apply to attend.

This opportunity is aimed at people working or seeking to work in the creative industries from the SEED region of Northern Ireland made up of Newry, Mourne & Down District Council, Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council plus Ards and North Down Borough Council.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick said, “This is another fantastic way for businesses to get themselves out there on a global platform. This year’s festival will create a week long event that will bring together creative expertise from Arctic regions and further afield, help companies to understand the value of design in business and how they can address living and working in a way that looks at sustainability through design.”

Councillor Fitzpatrick continued, “As well as profiling yourself it is also an exclusive opportunity to network with other creative professionals at an international level and explore potential transnational future partnerships and collaboration leading to increased turnover and new jobs. You will also learn from professionals at the top of the industry who will impart a wealth of information that will help your business to continue to develop and flourish.”

During the festival the following themes will be focused on: ‘How we can use design as a tool to better serve our customers’, ‘How we can design experiences’ and ‘Architecture makes a difference’. By turning these theories into practices that cement new customer relationships, companies will be better positioned to take advantage of increased business that will lead to new job opportunities. The Creative Momentum Project will help pay for a variety of expenses for those businesses taking part including flights, accommodation and registration.

Successful applicants will also have the opportunity to network with other companies supported through the Creative Momentum project. These will be from the EU regions of Northern Ireland, Sweden, Iceland and the Republic of Ireland.

Creative Momentum is funded through the EU’s Northern Periphery and Arctic Regions Programme (NPA) with Northern Ireland participation co funded by the SEED Councils of Ards & North Down Borough Council, Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Borough Council and Newry Mourne & Down District Council
