Eileen Murphy meets King Charles at Hillsborough.

Newry-based Women's Aid Armagh Down has been recognised at a Hillsborough Castle Garden Party, where representatives of the organisation met King Charles and Queen Camilla during their recent visit. The occasion marked the launch of phase 1 of their new ELEOS Centre at Downshire Place in Newry.

CEO Eileen Murphy led the delegation to Hillsborough yesterday 20 May along with Helen Cranney, Linda Rodgers, Gail McGreevy, Edwina Flynn and Deborah Loughran.

Queen Camilla, who was already aware of the organisation, commended the team for its work and for opening the new centre. King Charles demonstrated an awareness of the funding challenges involved in tackling the growing problem of domestic abuse in Northern Ireland.

The delegation also took the opportunity to update the Secretary of State, the Lord Lieutenant of County Down, and the Lady Chief Justice on the vital role Women's Aid plays in the local area.
