Write a commentNewry Volunteers joined others from around the province in the Waterfront Hall in Belfast for the Millennium Volunteers Awards of Excellence, organised by Volunteer Now.
This event, welcoming almost 1,300 guests and the largest to date, recognised the sustained volunteering commitment made by young people through the Millennium Volunteer (MV) Programme and highlighted the positive difference they make to society.
Speaking at the event Minister for Social Development Mervyn Storey MLA told the MV awardees ‘Never underestimate what you do in life, you have made an invaluable and inspiring contribution by volunteering. You are the future but also the present so keep on doing what you do – you make a difference’
Wendy Osborne, CEO Volunteer Now added ' Volunteer Now is delighted that in the past year 1,738 young people from across Northern Ireland have received their 200 hour MV Award for volunteering in the community.
