Newtownhamilton Post Office is to move back to its previous premises at Mace, 50 Dundalk Street, following the completion of repair works at the site. The branch will close at its current location before reopening around 50 metres away the following month.
The current branch at 35-37 Dundalk Street, Newtownhamilton, Newry, will close tomorrow Monday 20 July at 1pm, with the new Post Office service scheduled to open at the previous premises on Monday 3 August at 1pm.
The postmaster decided to move the store back to the site now that repair works have been completed, believing the change would benefit both the business and the local community. It is understood the relocation is intended to safeguard Post Office services in the area over the longer term, helping to secure ongoing access for customers while supporting the sustainability of the business.
An apology has been issued for any inconvenience the closure may cause. During the interim period, customers are being directed to two alternative branches, Cullyhanna Post Office at 4 Skerriff Road, Cullyhanna, Newry, and Whitecross Post Office at 15 Kingsmill Road, Whitecross, Armagh.
The same postmaster will continue to operate the branch once it reopens, with the same range of Post Office services remaining available. The new premises will offer daily opening hours of 7am to 10pm, providing 105 hours of Post Office service each week.
*The new branch will be approximately 50 metres away from the current branch, along mostly level terrain. Roadside parking is available nearby.
The decision to reopen the branch at the new location is a commercial one, and feedback is not being sought on that aspect of the change. However, customers are being invited to share views on access into and inside the new premises before the consultation period closes on 6 August.
