Write a commentThe PCSP has published two books written by author Gordon Lucy on the year 1916, following on from work with the PSNI in Newry, Mourne and Down.
The work has been part of the Cultural Educational Programme to inform local officers why communities commemorate particular historical events and the significance of these events. One of the books deals with the Easter Rising and the other the Battle of the Somme. This new written work looks at the connections of people from Ulster who played a role in both events, dramatically changing the political landscape of Ireland and the United Kingdom.
PCSP Chairperson, Councillor Brian Quinn welcomed Mr Lucy at the launch of the books in Kilkeel and said, “These books will be of great benefit to all who wish to learn about this important period of history and local characters that played a part in this significant year as part of the Decade of Centenaries.”
Author Gordon Lucy was educated at Portora Royal School, Enniskillen, and Queen’s University, Belfast and writes with the Ulster-Scots Community Network and the Newsletter. Mr Lucy said, “I have had a great interest in 1916, which dates back to my studies at Queen’s, and have been very pleased to been involved in this innovative project”.
