Write a commentTwelve street lights were discovered to be out of operation during a recent survey of street lighting in Forkhill, part of a quarterly survey of street lighting in the village carried out by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Cllr Mickey Larkin and local residents.
Commenting on the most recent survey Cllr Larkin added "This week we discovered twelve street lights out and have honed in on an ongoing fault with the lighting at Park Urney. Having spoken with residents who are frustrated by the lack of progress on this issue, I contacted both the street lighting division in Newry and the Fold housing association. I am hopeful that a resolution to the problem will be secured quickly but if not I will continue to pursue the issue until it is sorted".
Welcoming the allocation of increased funding to this area by Minister Chris Hazzard Councillor Larkin added "With two further electricians assigned to our area by Minister Hazzard I expect a faster turn around on fault repairs. I welcome the commitment by the Minister to our District. Over the next month we will continue the surveys throughout the area so if you witness a Sinn Féin member or community activist staring skywards of an evening, don't panic, they haven't lost the plot, they are just serving your community!."
