Music and storytelling session at Tí Chulainn takes place this Wednesday 22nd from 5pm featuring Terry Conlon and Padraig Carragher, from the band Bothán, as well as Seán Mac Diarmada on the uilleann pipes.
There will also be hikes to the passage tomb on Slieve Gullion each day up to the Thursday 22 December. For more information visit www.ringofgullion.org
Commenting on the events Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick said “The Winter Solstice Festival has something for everyone from art and crafts for the adults and the children, fitness runs through the stunning Ring of Gullion landscape, concerts showcasing amazing local musical talent and meditation events with Ann Ward.”
Councillor Fitzpatrick continued, “2016 has being an amazing year for the Ring of Gullion area and the Council programme of events in the area continues to grow from strength to strength. We are already planning for 2017 to be bigger and better and on behalf of the Council and the Ring of Gullion Partnership, I would like to thank all our partners, stakeholders, attendees, volunteers, community groups and venues for helping boost this area as a prominent visitor attraction. There will be a meeting on Tuesday 17 January at 7.30pm in Crossmaglen Community Centre to plan the Lúnasa Festival in August 2017 so feel free to come along, get involved and share your ideas.”
Slieve Gullion is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is a fabulous location to explore by foot. It is full of myths and legends and heritage, through this festival, families can learn more about the area through craft workshops, star grazing and walks. For those who have being lucky enough to get booked onto the hikes will be enlightened with stories about the myths of the mountain from leaders from the Gap o’ the North Walking Group, Dermot Somers; a writer, broadcaster, public-speaker and mountaineer and finishing with a hike ‘as Gaeilge’ on Thursday led by Seán Mac Diarmada.
