Last weeks  workshop at Slieve Gullion Courtyard proved extremely successful. Newry and Mourne District Council teamed up with Enda Flynn from Cooley Wildlife Photography  to provide a free Heritage Photography Workshop

In the morning, the attendees were able to learn how to take better pictures outside and get the most from their cameras. The attendees were then let loose in Slieve Gullion Forest Park to take some photos, it was then back into the classroom to see the results.

Martin Fitzpatrick, one of the attendees stated “ I have really enjoyed today and it is great to have events like this in the local area. I was looking around for a photography class and this one came up at the right time. It is an excellent venue to take photographs with the outstanding views of the surrounding countryside and the buildings in the courtyard”. A number of attendees stated their intention to enter the Ring of Gullion Photo Competition.

Therese Hamill, Ring of Gullion Officer said “It’s great to get involved with Enda who specializes in environmental photography. He was able to give the attendees more confidence in their own abilities and their cameras! Hopefully we will be able to have more workshops like this, as there was a great interest in it.  She added, “It is also great to get more entries in the Photo competition, it will be hard to pick the winners!”

For any budding photographers locally there is still time to get your entry in for the Ring of Gullion Photo Competition! The theme, this year is “Our Heritage” which can include photos of the great buildings/ historical sites in the area, photos of the outstanding wildlife or a photo from some of the many cultural events hosted in the area. The most important criteria is, that the photo must be taken in the Ring of Gullion area! Check out the Ring of Gullion Website or facebook page for inspiration.

This is a free event supported by Newry and Mourne District Council and Northern Ireland Environment Agency.  To enter the Ring of Gullion Photo Competition go to www.ringofgullion.org/Special-pages/Send-us-your-photos.aspx. There is an under 14s and over 14s category.

Closing date is 12.00pm on the 27th September 2013.  Enda Flynn is based in the Cooley Peninsula, as well as providing group workshops, he provides one to one photography days throughout the year. Check out some of his work on www.cooleywildlifephotgraphy.com
