New Newry Picture House
On Wednesday the new Newry picture house, the Cinema de Luxe, of which the popular and energetic Mr. Ormonde Sinclair is the manager, was opened under very auspicious circumstances, and judging from the fare that has since been presented there is every probability of the undertaking being not only a great, but a huge success.
The fitting and embellishment of the institution is nothing short of palatial, and it contains a highly acceptable innovation in the shape of a luxurious cafe, the conduct of which is in the capable hands of the Misses Catley and Cavan. The two lanterns are of the latest and most perfect description, and the pictures are projected with faultless clearness.
There will be a special matinee every Wednesday at 3 o’clock, free teas being provided, and on Saturday's at the same hour there will be a children’s matinee, the price of admission to which will be the small sum of one penny.
The prices of admission on all other occasions will be 3d, 6d and 9d; Children 2d, 3d and 6d.
Besides the big and varied programme, of varied pictures, two special lady artistes, Violet and Vesta, gave a number of performances that were enthusiastically, and deservedly, applauded.
There should be large “houses” to-night, the great patriotic star drama “The Call of the Motherland” being in itself worthy of the highest patronage. “Who's Who in Society” is a three-reel ”exclusive” comic that will take some beating. It will be projected on Monday and Tuesday nights, along with a host of other excellent features. “Kid Regan’s Hands” a powerful two-part drama, will be produced on Wednesday and Thursday nights, “Broncho Billy’s Scheme” and “The Carman’s Washday” being two magnificent supplementaries.
On Friday and Saturday a powerful “exclusive” comedy, “The Queen of Diamonds” will be screened, and other good comics include “On his Wedding Day” and “Caesars Wife.”
Pathe’s Gazette during the week will be found to contain all the latest and best in the world’s modern history. The proscenium, it may be mentioned, which was executed by Mr. J. Toner of “The Big Six,” Needham Place, is a splendid work of art, harmonising with the entire get-up of the Cinema de Luxe. It reflects the highest credit on Mr. Toner, and is a worthy contribution to a theatre that is in every respect admirable.
