Write a commentAlmost 300 cyclists turned up to support the Newry Wheelers Annual Sportive in aid of Southern Area Hospice at the weekend.
The weather stayed fair throughout the event and a welcome hot bowl of stew at the end made the event all the more enjoyable.
Raymond Reid, Organising Commttee commented "This year’s annual cycle has been a great success with many more people turning up to support than last year. These events don’t happen without the dedication time and effort of club members, family and friends.’
A particular word of thanks to Courtneys Catering for food at the finish, Brendan from Bridge End Bikes for mechanical support , Kafe Krem for providing hot drinks beforehand, St Johns ambulance, and Grounded and Volunteers from Southern Area Hospice and Newry & Mourne District Council for facilities.
Drew McKinley, Chairperson of Newry Wheelers, said ‘we are very happy with the turn out today, the event was well marshalled with motorbike support and PSNI assistance as well. Safety is extremely important with such large groups of cyclist. We are very pleased to show our continued support for Southern Area Hospice.
