FPM League – O’Neill Takes the Win

Round 3 of the FPM league took place on Tuesday night in tough weather conditions on a tough 2 lap route from Hilltown, Kilcoo Rathfriland and back to Hilltown 
Two  races were run on the night , Group 3 led out and weren’t long out until Scratch caught up on them.  

In the A race it was Henry O’ Neill (Group 3) who used the handicap to his advantage by out sprinting Barry Convery  across the line.  The two men broke away group and maintained the break until the end.  So 2nd place was given to Barry Convery with Mark McKinley in 3rd who had to claw back a 4 minute advantage with Des woods to catch the limit group.


In the 2nd race of the night it was Gary Millar who showed a clean pair of wheels to take the win ahead of Mark Gordon with Noel Goodman 3rd.


Ciara Havern Group 1 was first lady home  on the night closely followed by her fellow Group 1 team mates for a bunch sprint.


Round 4 of the FPM League is another tough route – The Reed Hall Circuit.

Gallogly & Convery dominant in Clogher Valley GP

Newry Wheelers Declan Gollogly and Barry Convery lined up for the inaugural A3 open race in Ballygawley, Co Tyrone hosted by Clogher Valley Cycling Club.

The strong duo raced in the 60 mile A3 race covering 4 laps on rolling roads. The race included an intermediate sprint for the sprinters jersey and a KOM for the climber’s jersey. The pace started off fast but with no breaks getting up the road. 

Convery made a number of attacks early on attacked on a couple of occasions but the gap was bridged each time. Gollogly made a good attempt at the intermediate sprint which was at the end of the second lap. 

Commenting on sprint effort Declan said ‘ I led the sprint out but unfortunately another rider that was on my wheel was able to come around me so I had to settle for second in the sprinters competition’

Coming into the last few miles the pace lifted. About 1km from the finish line the duo  was moving well up the bunch. Convery led out an early sprint at the end Gollogly took 4th with Convery hot on his heels in 8th position.
