St John Bosco Seniors
St John Bosco vs. Newry Shamrocks Friday 5th April Pairc Esler
St John Bosco 0:07 Newry Shamrocks 0:04

2 points and local bragging rights were at stake in Pairc Esler on Friday night as the senior men took on Shamrocks. Thankfully the Bosco men left with both.
A dour low scoring encounter didn't inspire the spectators but that didn't matter to Marty lynch and the management team as they secured a league victory over their local rivals for the first time in 20 years. Decky Morgan got the Bosco’s first score of 2014 and Lee Ruddy, Gavy moan (2) Francie Downey and Eamon Murphy added scores. A 6 points to 2 lead at the break looked slender enough facing a breeze in the second half. Bosco added only one point in the second half but a superb defensive performance yielded only 2 shamrocks points resulting in a 0.7 to 0.4 victory.
Credit to newly appointed captain Ethan Toner and his full back line colleagues Robbie Mc Donald and Fergie Lavery for excellent performances. Larry McAlinden also saved a penalty twice after the ref ordered it to be retained.
Work to be done in the forward line but a solid start to the new campaign.
L McAlinden, R McDonald, E Toner, F Lavery, R Lynch, D Byrne, P Magill, C Duggan, C Gallagher, E Murphy, G moan, L Ruddy, D Morgan, F Downey, J Carnegie

St John Bosco vs. Attical Monday 7th April Jack Mackin Park
St John Bosco 0:16 Newry Attical 1:08
The senior team picked up another 2 points on Monday night at the expense of Attical. On a perfect night for football Bosco started brightly but as with the previous week scores were hard to come by with the wide count more than keeping pace with the score board. But the points eventually started to come with Gavy Moan, Eamon Murphy and lee ruddy among the scorers.
Attical funnelled plenty of men behind the ball and tried to work short kick outs to keep the dominant Chris Duggan and Conal Gallagher out of the game. They then attacked in numbers and at speed and although they caused some problems the home team’s defence once again stood up to the challenge. Half time had the Bosco men 0.8 to 0.3 ahead. Attical started the second half strongly and got the first point. Bosco responded well and notched 4 points in a row to regain control with Paddy Magill and Decky Byrne prominent. However there was still a deal of possession being wasted and the Attical counter attacks yielded a couple of points followed by a goal that had a strong suspicion of over carrying about it. The gap was down to 3 points but the Bosco lads were not to be denied.
A wonder point from sub Francie Downey and another excellent score from Decky Morgan settled the nerves and left the final score 0.16 to 1.08.
L McAlinden, R McDonald, E Toner, F Lavery, R Lynch, D Byrne, P Magill, C Gallagher, C Duggan, E Murphy, G Moan, L Ruddy, D Morgan, P McKeown, J Carnegie subs used F Downey, M Rooney, A Beattie

St John Bosco U16 Girls vs. Down U14s Sunday 13th April 2014
St Colman’s was the venue for a challenge match between the Bosco u16 girls and the Down u14 girls as part of their preparations for their forthcoming championship match against Armagh on 27th April 2014.
On this occasion the four Bosco players who play for the Down team turned out for their Club and contributed to an excellent and competitive game.
In the end the stronger and more physical Bosco u16 team won by 5 points but both management teams will take some useful learning points from the match.
St John Bosco U12 Girls
St John Bosco vs. St Peter’s Warrenpoint Wednesday 9th April 2014
With almost all the successful U12 girls’ team from last year graduating to U14s, a new and very young u12 team played their first match against Warrenpoint at St Colman’s. Ten of the starting team was U10s.
Despite this the team played some great football with Ciarrai Lavery and Aimee O’Hanlon competing well at midfield and Chloe Quinn and Iona Reynolds taking some excellent scores in the 1st half. In defence there were good performances from Clara Osborne, Maria Medeoit and Victoria Brudlo. The game was very competitive and entertaining for the large crowd of parents in attendance
Final Score Bosco 2: 05 Warrenpoint 3: 06
Five Bosco U14 girls competed for Ballyholland Harps in the recent Camogie Féile held at the Abbey Grammar School in Newry. The team also includes four Saval u14 players
U12’s St John Bosco vs. Saval
St John Bosco vs. Saval Sunday 6th April Saval
A fine Sunday morning on a bumpy Saval pitch that the Bosco boys took a while to get used to was the setting for the latest outing of the U12 team. With mentor Peadar Gallagher away in Donegal it was left to Kevin, Paul, David and Hugh to sort out the team. With 2 sessions of 15 minutes at 11 a side followed up with 2 sessions of 15 minutes at 15 a side this was a real hour’s treat of football for all players, mentors and spectators concerned.
With Jack White, Patrick Ruddy, Nathan Gribben, Ryan Shields and Rowan Toner all out through illness and injury the mentors had to re-jig the positions in order to cover the gaps.
This was a solid display from the U12’s against a bigger stronger Saval team with the men in amber and blue standing up to the mark and getting a well earned result.
Next up for the U12’s is a home blitz on Sunday 27th in Jack Mackin park at 10:30 a.m.
Bosco G4M
Bosco G4M&O coach Mo Rooney along with players Lorna Copeland and Roisin Hart travelled to the St. Maurs club in Rush Co. Dublin to take part in the G4M&O training and information evening. Mo stated that the trip to Dublin was worthwhile as not only did the Bosco party get the chance to learn firsthand of the changes but the opportunity to meet coaches and players from other G4M&O teams was vital as all of the teams got a chance to swap contact numbers and arrange future matches.
The Bosco ladies continue to train every Thursday night in St. Patricks PS at 7pm and new players are always welcome. Please contact Mo on 07544442519.

Senior News

Our senior hurling team recorded a well deserved Ulster Hurling League victory over Clonduff (Down) on Saturday past. Both sides played some excellent hurling and it was a truly team performance by Craobh Rua to win the game on a 1-13 to 0-11 score line. Jay O Hare and Fiachra Bradley put in a constructive shift in their mid field roles, with both players encouraging their team mates to push forward. The back line in particular during the second half worked well to ensure that the Clonduff forwards couldn't settle. Credit to young Caolan Rowntree making his first senior appearance and to Cillian Campbell who replaced the injured Miceal Bradley and put in a sound display. An all round fine team display and one that will help this committed Craobh Rua Squad.
Senior training continues on Tuesday & Thursday nights and it is anticipated that we okay Leitrim in our next Tain Ukster League match this Saturday.
Minors
The minors recorded a good victory over Middletown on Friday night last. Despite being down a few key players, the team displayed great skills and commitment to defeat Middletown.
Club Activities
We hope our Club Players, members and supporters had an enjoyable Easter. The underage development programme continues after the break and all teams will be notified by their respective coaches.
Sympathy

Ard Mhaca Under 14 Division 3 Football League
Thomas Davis Corrinshego v O'Doirnin Blues (forkhill&culloville)
3-10. V 6-11
The second league game of the season for our young players was a tougher examination at this level. After winning their opening fixture, some of our newly registered players started their first game and at times their youth was against them as some towering players in the opposition had a natural advantage and raced into an opening lead, scoring a goal and 3 points in ten minutes, before Under 14 Captain Brendan McLoughlin fired the first goal for the home side. The away side then scored another two goals, before half forward Jonjoe Cranney and Karl Treanor reduced the lead but it was 3-5 to 1-3 at the half time whistle.
The second half began in a better fashion as once again Captain Brendan McLoughlin showed his class and broke through midfield time and again to score a point and a much needed goal. Minutes later he also played a neat ball into forward Karl Treanor, who burst the net again, before both scored a point a piece. After a scintillating 15 mins, the away side got back into the game with another couple of goals that keeper Dean Sheridan nearly prevented. now found themselves 4 points in front and they expected an onslaught from the home side, which duly came for the last ten minutes of the game. Conor Lenagh was pushed up front late on to try to get a few scores and did well, scoring a point and setting up another. The home side then missed a penalty and kicked 5 wides before Oisin Mallon's return to Corrinshego saw him score a nice point.
The away side in the end celebrated the win but there are many games yet to come and great to see so many of our lads now back playing at the club.

Friday 25th April @ 7:00pm
Venue: Clan Eireann GAA Grounds
Score: 3-13 : 1-11
The Minors have missed two weeks of football and trained hard for this upcoming match, coming up against a strong side of Clan Eireann and earning a well fought win.
The team started off a little slow and performance was unsteady causing the team to concede 4 points within the first 10 minutes. The team finally crawled to their feet and hit the team running getting points from lee Courtney, Declan Loye and Caolan Flanagan and slowly gaining an advantage over the home side. The team continued to get scores on the sheet before finally breaking the goal barrier from a Declan loye break down past the keeper. The team then got another goal from an organised free kick tactic from Caolan Flanagan, blasting the ball towards bottom corner leaving the keeper to palm it into his own net – leaving Doire Mor Gaels with the lead going into the break.
The teams half time break seemed to influence the squad and they lifted their spirits coming out for the second half. The team continued to get scores on the sheet, even full back Sean Mc Parland getting his name down for scoring. The backline continued to hold Clann eireann back, with an unbreakable force of Brendan Mc Corry, Aaron Cinnamond, Sean Mc Parland, Richard Kennan and Sean Treanor all working hard to hold back their forwards – with Stephen King running riot and breaking down many of their attacking attempts. More points from Richard Keenan, Lee Courtney, Declan Loye, Caolan Flanagan and even midfielder Conor Loye kept our scores rising – with a goal in the midst of that from Caolan Flanagan again.
The match finished up 3-13 to 1-11 for the Gaels and achieved their second league win of the season, 2 out of 2 and they continue to adapt and progress. They face a tough team of Clan Na Gael on Monday night at Carrickcruppen, 7.15pm

"We want everyone to be able to enjoy the spectacle of this world renowned race and are asking for the support of the local community to ensure the event passes without incident.
