No matter what way you look at it - It's not natural after 6pm for the main street in your city to be derelict
, devoid of life, empty, scary, quiet, Ghost Town - call it what you like. It's not on and our local authorities have been talking about doing something about it for years and what has it all come to - nought.
There is no point in waiting for someone else to do something about it. It's up to each and every one of us to make a difference.
If you own a property in Hill Street - Rent out upstairs for accommodation, Open a restaurant, pub, cafe that stays alive later. Have a community centre that has plenty happening even god forbid - after dark!!!
It only takes a few entrepreneurial people like Graeme Finnegan of Grounded to make something happen. Look how thats going, open to midnight and always busy!
Shutters on shops at night believe it or not are NOT natural (Ask anyone who visits here from overseas or even from south of the border) Get them removed and throw some light into the street.
Display your wares so people can wander about and look before they buy. Ok someone might smash it but I don't want my city looking like a desolate town on a film set any more.
I've officially had enough. Time for change is now, not when we are all dead! If you're not going to help make Newry a city we all can be proud of, then who is?
