It's been so long since I had a good moan here on Newry.info so I suppose I'm due one!
What is it about some people that make them want to seek out a hedge to through their bin bags of rubbish over like on Daisy Hill or a footpath where then can add some "street art" by placing perhaps an old bed or a washing machine like the one that has just arrived outside our door the day before yesterday!
Newrys Dirty streets certainly are renowned but proud people? Proud perhaps that they have managed to clear an unwanted item/ items away from about them without having to make much effort!
I had a great walk up by the Flagstaff the other day, just a few short miles from Newry. It's one of the most beautiful spots to sit and relax and feel that all is well with the world, but look round and there's a donkey with an "I've seen it all" expression on it's face and on closer inspection it has - Car parts, bin bags full of who knows what and plastic plastic plastic.
Across the road and a five minute walk through the forest and someone has added some abstract art to the magnificent scenery in the form of bags and bags of children's toys including a doll with the same perplexed look as the donkey. Not an easy task saying that you would have to consciously carry the bags up quite a steep hill and then walk for about 5 minutes.
Can people not use bins. Even the council offers a service where it can pick up your unloved larger items.
I really don't know how this blight on our wonderful landscape can be tackled, perhaps it never will!
