A Kilkeel community group has received a £1,000 grant from the Asda Foundation to support a summer scheme for local children. Newry Street Unite, which focuses on social inclusion and promoting health and well-being, will use the funding to help deliver a three week programme for children aged four to 11 during July and August.
Ann Fitzpatrick from Newry Street Unite said: "This funding is incredibly welcome and will help us cover the basics from snacks to activity essentials. A huge thank you to Lisa and the Asda Foundation for supporting community projects like ours and investing in young people here in Kilkeel. We are excited for what's ahead this summer at Newry Street Unite Community Centre."
The scheme will offer daily snacks, a range of fun learning activities and a child-friendly environment throughout its three weeks. The grant was awarded through the Asda Foundation, the charitable arm of the supermarket.
Lisa Cunningham, Community Champion at Asda Kilkeel, said: "This is a fantastic local group and I'm thrilled the Asda Foundation has been able to provide some support as we head towards the summer, when keeping children happy and active is such an important priority for families."
She added: "We're right at the heart of our community here in Kilkeel, and it's great to build connections with groups like this, who do so much for people in the area."
