A Magical night of activities and entertainment is in store this Friday night the 20th of September as part of Newry's very first participation in the European wide Culture Night experience.
Most of the events are based at the Events Space at Marcus Square in the Cathedral Quarter/ Hill Street although a sizeable number of fringe events are taking place elsewhere.
Marcus Square entertainment begins at 5pm and runs to 8pm with performances from Acoustikatz, Cloughmore Male Voice Choir, Mickey Murphy, Sonas Harp Ensemble, Sherridan Gospel Choir, Warrenpoint Comhaltas and the Avalon Choir as well as Irish Dancing, Highland Dancing and Nitemode DJ's.
Creative Arts displays will also feature Jumping Clay, Louis the entertainer, Storytelling, Glass Painting, Pottery, Blacksmiths, Painting, Photography and there will also be a childrens play area.
In the event of weather disrupting the event many of the events will take place in Newry Town Hall instead.
Fringe events include a Mexican Fiesta with food at the beautiful Maya Cafe from 5pm, Coffee Culture and Craic at Grounded from 5pm, The Cricks at The Quays from 6pm, Anthony Russell in The Trial of the man who shot Darcy Magee at the Working Mans Club from 7.30pm and a Sticky Fingers Art Workshop at the Childrens Art House from 5.30pm.
There is also a night of Magic and Music at the Museum and as well the entire Museum will be open to the public from 6pm - 8pm on Friday night so you can see the history and culture of the region on display.
Internationally renowned and critically acclaimed harpist and singer, Emer Kenny, will be in the Museum’s Banqueting Room performing a selection of ‘music throughout the ages’ from her wide ranging repertoire and ‘Victorian’ magician Gavin Murphy will enthral visitors to the Museum with his astonishing feats, mind games and demonstrations of clairvoyance.
Also appearing at the Museum will be special guests, Emer Kenny and Gavin Murphy, who will be on hand to entertain you for the evening.
