Young drivers in South Down are being invited to Pizza, Peelers and Plasters days in Warrenpoint and Kilkeel to brush up on their first aid skills with PSNI South Down Neighbourhood Policing Team and South Down Family Health Initiative (SDFHI).
Two First Aid training courses, aimed at 18-25 year old drivers, will take place at the Seashell Centre, Newcastle Street, Kilkeel on Saturday, 2 March, and at SDFHI Office, Great Georges Street, Warrenpoint on Saturday, 9 March.
The course was devised after SDFHI took part in a project with PSNI Rathfriland Neighbourhood Policing Team entitled ‘Keep the Race in its Place’. The Initiative recognised a lack of knowledge among young drivers in relation to basic first aid skills.

Police in South Armagh are sending a clear message to motorists who flout the law that there is no hiding place for drivers who put their own and others safety at risk on the roads.
Officers on patrol in Camlough on Saturday, 23 February, detected a motorist driving with no insurance. Officers observed a silver Audi A4 and were able to conduct a mobile check on their Blackberry devices which showed no insurance for the vehicle. Police stopped the vehicle and the male driver admitted having no insurance.

Police in Warrenpoint are appealing for information following an incident on the carriageway between Newry and Warrenpoint on Thursday, 21 February.
Around 8.20am, close to the entrance to the quarry on the Warrenpoint bound side of the carriageway, a wooden plank fell off the back of a lorry and hit the bonnet of another car. Police are appealing to the driver of the lorry or anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them in Warrenpoint on 0845 600 8000.

Around £100,000 of suspected cannabis has been seized by Officers from E District Tactical Crime Unit following a planned search of a house in the Barron's Hill area of Bessbrook today Friday.
Police also recovered a sum of money and other drug related paraphernalia was also seized from the property.
Commenting on the drug seizure Area Commander, Chief Inspector Davy Beck said “Communities regularly voice their concerns about the impact that drugs have on young people and the wider associated anti-social behaviour issues that accompany drug misuse.

Police in Warrenpoint are appealing for information following an incident of criminal damage in Duke Street, Warrenpoint.
Some time between Friday, 22 February and Monday, 25 February the front door of a property was kicked through causing significant damage to the door. The property was previously damaged by fire.

Officers from E District Tactical Crime Unit, who recovered approximately £100,000 of suspected cannabis following a planned search of a house in the Barron's Hill area of Bessbrook on Friday, 1 March, have arrested a 25 year old man.
The male has been arrested for possession of Class B drugs and possession of Class B drugs with intent to supply. He is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

Police in Warrenpoint are appealing for information following the theft of a generator from a building site on Clonallen Road.
Some time between 5pm on Friday, 1 March and 8am on Monday, 4 March, the grey Bruno generator with a lighting tower was taken.

Police in Newry are appealing for information following the theft of manhole covers from the A1.
Some time between 3pm on Monday, 18 February and 12pm on Tuesday, 19 February, 71 manhole covers were taken from the A1 carriageway between the Forkhill roundabout and the border with the Republic of Ireland.
Constable Kenny, Newry Response, said: "Quite apart from the money needed to replace manhole covers, the thefts are creating a danger to roadusers. Stealing manhole covers is the action of criminals who put their own profit before the wellbeing and lives of people in our community."

Detectives in E District have charged a 21 year old man with seven offences of burglary and one of criminal damage.
The charges relate to incidents in the Newry and Dungannon areas between 2009 and 2011.
The man was arrested in England yesterday and returned to Northern Ireland. He will appear before Newry Magistrates' Court this morning, 8 March.
As is normal procedure the charges will be reviewed by the PPS.
