Over 80 riders took part in the Phoenix GP at Nutts Corner at the weekend, Newry Wheelers Jude Sands & Daniel McConville took part in the A3 race Des Woods in A1/2, while Alwynne Shannon was solo woman from the club on the day.
The 5 lap course took the riders from Nutts Corner, to Seven Mile Straight and Long Rig Road. The course while relatively flat was challenging in strong blustery wind.
Jude showed great form making several breaks and went solo after first lap, the group caught up they worked together. Coming up to the final lap another break formed which Jude successfully bridged the gap across taking 6th place overall – great start to the racing season.
