Underage Activities
Prior to the Christmas break over 70 Primary 5 children from four of our local schools were treated to a fantastic mornings hurling at Silverbridge GFCs indoor hall.
This was the end product of a club coaching strategy aimed at increasing participation levels and the coaching program was very well implemented by Armagh Coaching Officer James Mc Kernan.

Feedback from the young hurlers who participated indicated that they have indeed enjoyed their opportunity to learn the skills of the game. Hopefully we will and see some of these new learners come along to club sessions when they start back early next week.
Craobh Rua Under 10 manager Joe Mc Eldowney took time out to come and chat with the young hurlers, provide some information on the club and give out some rewards as a treat for the efforts of the children.
We would like to extend a míle buíochas to each of the schools, their teachers and James Mc Kernan for their support in this initiative and also to Silverbridge for the use of their excellent facilities.

It was a wet and wild day which hampered the play at times however both sides were going all out for the win. Newry had a couple of early chances with Keith McWilliams slimming the post his an effort and a snap shot from Kris Fletcher going narrowly wide. Portadown's best chance was thwarted by Matty Russell who deflected the ball off the line from a short corner on the reverse side.
In the second half Newry took an early lead with Keith McWilliams finishing from a short corner. However the lead was short lived as the home side equalised from a short corner of the own when Greer could only deflect the ball into his own net.

Both sides were battling to get the next goal which finally fell to Newry with Neil McKnight applying the finishing touches to a goal mouth scramble. Again Portadown fought back and got back on level terms with a tap in at the back post. With only 5 minutes remaining Newry got a third when Kris Fletcher rocketed home a low strike from a short corner. Newry held out to come away with all 3 points.
