Cluichecheannais na Scéithe Roinn 3 / Division 3 Shield Final
Doire Nuis 5-06 Cor Fhuinseoige 2-08
Played in excellent conditions, before a good crowd Thomas Davis Corrinshego GFC were defeated by Derrynoose on a scoreline of 5 -06 to 2- 08 in Dorsey. The season started away back in early January with a challenge match between the minor team and the senior team and culminated today in our first final in many a long year. Many Corrinshego members hoped that Sunday 22nd October would finally bridge the long gap since August 1982 since we won our last senior title, the Armagh Junior Championship .
Before thrown in, the team were in a confident mood as we have ran Derrynoose close already this year. However it was the blue and navy who started the brighter and had a point on the scoreboard within the first two minutes. Although performing well at midfield and winning breaking ball, the young Thomas Davis side could not penetrate the St. Mocha’s defence. Against the run of play Derrynoose scored a ‘comical’ goal due to defensive errors. This was followed up with 2 quick points in succession to leave the score 1-3 to no score. Corrinshego battled away and Cathal Trainer scored their first point on 17minutes, but this was quickly cancelled out by a Derrynoose point. A good run on the wing by Daniel Hughes resulted in a high ball which was knocked down by David Lenaghan to the on-comming Phelim Finnegan who dispatched the ball to the back of the Derrynoose net. Corrinshego now had the momentum and D. Hughes pointed to leave the half time score 1-2 to 1-4 in favour of Derrynoose.
On the resumption Corrinshego started with great vigour and determination to bridge the 30year gap of a senior Cup. D. Hughes pointed on 33minutes and a great run by P. Finnegan ( 36 minutes)resulted in winning a 45meter free, resulting in a move from which D. Hughes scored to level the match at 1-4 a piece. On 39 minutes D. Hughes was injured and many in the crowd felt the young corner forward merited a free, but instead the ball moved quickly into the danger are and Derrynoose scored to place them one point ahead.
Another turning point came on 42minutes when C. Trainor hit the post after an excellent delivery by James Dinsmore . Derrynoose scored another point and then a goal on 47 minutes to leave it 2-6 to 1-5. Again Corrinshego responded with point from both D. Hughes and C. Trainor to leave just two point between the teams with less than ten minutes remaining . However the last ten minutes can only be described as disappointing as lack of concentration resulted in the Newry side leaking goals. First on 51 minutes and then a further two goals on 55 and 57 minutes killed this game off and any hope that the Division 3 Shield title of heading down the Chancellors Road. In between this substitute Ryan O’Reilly caused havoc which resulted in David Lenaghan pulling a goal back, followed up with a D. Hughes point.
To their credit Corrinshego battled for 55 minutes and controlled the game at times, but in reality to concede 5 goals in any game and expect to win is a tall order. At the final whistle Co Board Official Seamus Mc Donagh presented the winning Derrynoose captain with the new Division 3 Shield. Everyone at Corrinshego would like to thank Dorsey Emmetts for their facilities and the way they officiated at the match. It has been a long season and we take many positives , such as having a panel of 28 players for a fixture in late October and also reaching the decider.

Newry hosted North Down on Saturday still unbeaten in their league campaign this season. North Down started off brightly but the homse side absorbed the pressure well and took the lead ten minutes in with John Taylor continuing his rich vein of goal scoring recently. Newry kept North Down pinned in their half but a lapse of concentration let the away side back into the game and at half time it was one apiece. The home side totally dominated the second half and got the lead again when veteran Richard nummy rounded the kepper and slotted home. Newry where good for their lead and North Down could not get a out of their half. However Newry again went to sleep and poor marking led to North getting the equaliser. Newry then went for the game but their finishing was not up to the build up play, with only two minutes left poor defending led to North getting a short which they duely took. It looked like they had bagged all three points, but right from the push back Newry went up the other end a won a short corner of their own and Colin McKnight was on hand to get Newrys thrid to keep their unbeated start to the season going. Newry travel to Ballynahinch next weekend.

Newry 2’s with their first 3 points of the season in the newly promoted league
The game started pretty evenly with both teams feeling each other out with few short corners being produced. Mossely struck half way through the first half with a lucky strike which hopped on the pitch over the Newry goalkeepers pads. Newry went in to the half time break feeling hard done by. Second half begun with Mossely growing in confidence until Newry could get a foothold back in the game. When Newry finally did start playing again in the second half they never looked back creating some great chances 2 of which Keith McWilliams took. The first a low hard shot from top of the circle and the second a converted cross from veteran Nigel McGuffin. Newry will be hoping they can know build on this performance try and collect some valuable points in their next few games.

New Sports Community Campus on target
A completion date of September 2013 is in sight for our new Playing Pitch, Phase1 of the Doran’s Hill Community Sports Campus. We have made great progress. The site has been prepared and raised to the correct level with fill sourced from the new Tesco site on the Belfast Road. The site will now be left over the winter to allow the new fill to settle. Work will re-commence in the early spring by our main pitch contractor Curran contracts for the drainage, sand layering and seeding.
Curran contracts are an experienced Pitch contractor based in Blackwatertown Co. Armagh, who have worked on many major contracts including the Louth GAA centre of excellence at Darver, Clann Éireann GFC & Burren GFC to name a few.
So Phase 1 is well underway with plans for Phase 2, our 3 story Community Clubhouse & Changing rooms well advanced with planning permission already approved. Phases 3 & 4 which include a second pitch & associated works are also well advanced.
After a fantastic nights craic in the Canal Court Hotel at the weekend the favourites won out at Bosco Family misFortunes
The Players team Kevin Faloon (Captain), Emma Grey, Niamh Ellen Wallace and Christopher Duggan walked away with the coveted title of most unfortunate team in the St John Bosco stable.
The event organised by Hanna Quinn Productions Inc. (Ireland’s answer to Hanna Barbera the US cartoon makers of the Flinstones and Scooby Doo etc) was a storming success with gut wrenching, tongue twisting, butt squirming, phobia testing challenges that brought the audience to their feet and the contestants to their knees.
Highlights of the evening were Dipsy TeleTumilty’s (Mark) aka Martina from Saval’s attire for the evening, a figure hugging leopard skin pair of trousers that left nothing to the imagination (not that anybody was imagining anything!) Tito (Colm) Jackson would have endured several days/weeks of solitary confinement with the snakes and reptiles before he would utter the escape phrase ‘I’m an Armagh supporter – get me out of here!’ Whilst Kevin Faloon tucked squeamishly into the pig’s privates, Hannibal (Mo) Rooney stated that the fare on offer was a lot better than Lisa’s cooking and even asked for seconds!
This was a rip roaring success and a real catalyst for club and audience enjoyment whilst raising vital funds necessary to finance underage football in our community. Many thanks to all the generous sponsors, audience and organisers for a truly memorable night. Darragh, Paul and their crew from Destination Newry were there on the night streaming the event live worldwide and if you missed it or want to see it again you can see the big show gory details and all on www.destinationnewry.com
All members are reminded to get the ticket money into Liam Quinn or leave with John in the Clubrooms as soon as possible.

A shocking second half performance ruined Newry's undefeated start to the season. The away side flew out of the straps in the first half and dominated much of the early proceedings but could not make their pressure pay off. Bangor started to play their way into the game as Newry seemed to run out of ideas and were in the ascendency at half time. The second half was a story of sloppy play and misplaced passes for Newry gifting the possession to Bangor time and again. The home side didn't need to be given too many chances as they went one up within five minutes of the restart. Midway through the second half they scored in two consecutive counter attacks, Newry just did not seem to have an answer to this. This defeat will give Newry a reality check and will need to get back to winning ways against Balnahinch next weekend.
Newry Ladies 1's 0-3 Hollywood Ladies 1's
Inns, C. Waddell, C. McAuley, A. Blakley, C. Gamble, A. Gamble, J. Heatrick, J. Cochrane, T. McElroy, D. Barry, A. Magowan, K. Baird, N. Shields
Newry Ladies hosted league leaders Hollywood Ladies on the back of their cup win the previous week. During the first half both teams cancelled each other out but Newry will be kicking themselves for not converting any of their penalty corners and at half time the score was goalless.
Hollywood scored early in the second half and this seemed to knock Newry confidence, they could not really get started in the second period and Hollywood took advantage of this to win three nil owing to a dominant second half display.
Mossley 6's 0-7 Newry 3's
P. Elmore, A. McGaffin, A. Baird, K. Best, E. Graham, W. Moffett, A. Foster, J. Niblock, M. McCaigue, J. Whiteside, S. Blakley, J. McWilliams, L. Ervine
Newry great start to the season continued on Saturday with a resounding win in a typically hard venue to get any sort of result, Mossley away. Right from the off Newry where dominant and their first goal came through James Niblock. William Moffet and Lee Ervine both got their names on the score sheet soon after to give Newry a strong lead at half time. Mossley came out a better team in the second half but Newry were able to pick them off on the counter attack as they pushed forward. Scot Blakley and Jonny McWilliams took it turn about to score in this thumping win the Blakley getting the fourth and sixth with McWilliams getting the fifth and seventh goals of the games. This win keeps their momentum going and will do no harm to their goal difference tally.
Raphoe 2's 1-2 Newry 2's
S. Henry, B. Scott, D. Lawson, J. Lawson, W. Adams, N. McGuffin, K. McWilliams, M. McGrath, A. Henning, D. Liggett, D. Barlow
Newry seconds made the long trek to Raphoe for the late fixture and 2 goals from Keith McWilliams in the Donegal twilight saw the Newry men return victorious.
Newry travelled wih the bare 11 to this fixture and after watching Raphoe firsts give Portadown firsts a tough lesson in the earlier match the home team started the Match in good spirits. Newry however are specialists in grinding results out in difficult circumstances and this was going to be no exception. Raphoe forced a succession of short corners in the first half and got ever closer to the target while Newry got it together with a lot of good attacking moves and worked the excellent Raphoe keeper regularly.
The Newry men set themselves up to be hard to play through with front line of McGuffin, McGrath and McWilliams and midfielders Scott, liggett and Adams working hard to reduce the pressure on back line Henning, Barlow and the Lawson brothers to long balks and the occasional attack down Raphoes speedy wingers. Newry picked off a lot of Raphoe attacks and launched counter attack after counter attack until a McGuffin ball found McWilliams in the area for a close range finish.
The teams changed ends at half time with Raphoe slow to retake the field, perhaps in an attempt to distract the Newry men. As the second half begun Newry were put under real pressure for the first time in the game and a free from just outside the circle saw a Raphoe equaliser, keep Henry unlucky not to get a clean sheet after several great reaction saves.
The game ebbed and flowed with the key Raphoe man stepping forward more and more to drive their play, while Newry continued to make chances with D Lawson, McGuffin, McGrath,Adam's and McWilliams all going close with efforts, some closer than others it has to be said!
The game always looked like it had a winner in it and it came with 10 minutes remaining. Scott broke up a Raphoe counter attack winning and taking a quick free to McWilliams who dribbled into the D and unleashed an unstoppable reverse stick effort into the roof of the net to howls of delight from the Newry men.
The remainder saw green cards shown to both teams and chances at both ends but Newry held on and were good value for their win.
