The hurlers of Craobh Rua Camloch defeated Middletown in last weeks Championship semi final by a 1-11 to 1-5 scoreline and now will attempt to make history by winning the Armagh Junior Championship when they face a highly fancied Derrynoose team in the final.
This will be a tough task for the Camloch club in this their fourth final appearance but none the less there is a great belief amongst this group of hurlers that they can win the Championship for the first time in their history. There is a balance of experience and youth within the team who can boast three members of the Armagh Rackard winning panel, Michael Garvey, Fiachra Bradley and Ryan Lewis. The team also boasts talented young minors and Sean Casey, and Ryan Lundy lined out for the Armagh minor side this year. The match is set for this Sunday at the Athletic Grounds and will be curtain raiser to the Senior Hurling Championship final

Craobh Rua Camlocha hurling club last Saturday morning echoed in the “clash of the ash” and the noise of nearly 100 underage hurlers participating in the annual “Richard Hughes Memorial Shield Blitz. It was a day fitting to the memory of the young local boy who, as stated by Chairperson of Craobh Rua Raymond Watters “Will always be remembered by our hurling Club”. Teams from Dungannon County Tyrone, Dundalk County Louth, Keady and the hosting club participated in the event and Craobh Rua would like to thank all those who helped make sure it was an enjoyable sporting occasion for all. All members of participating teams received a special medal for their attendance and Feargal Cooney from Craobh Rua has the special honour of taking the Richard Hughes Memorial Shiled to be kept for a year at his Primary School St Malachy’s Ballymoyer. He received it from Richards father Eugene, brother Kevin and sister Lorna

Our senior team defeated Middletown in the semi final of the Armagh Junior Championship by a 1-11 to 1-5 scoreline. It was a tough match played in trying conditions. The final is due to be played this Sunday as a curtain raiser to the Senior Hurling Championship finale and Craobh Rua encourage all supporters and gaels to come along and cheer their local hurling team who have worked so hard this year and served this area proud.

Local man Laurence McGivern is competing in tonights 100m Backstroke S9 Final at the Paralympics in London.
The final takes place at 6.30pm tonight in the London Aquatics Centre.
Nineteen year old Laurence booked his place in the final this morning qualifying with a time of 1:05:35.
He will compete in lane 7 against Matthew Cowdrey from Australia, Tamas Sors and Tamas Toth from Hungary; Xiaobing Liu from China, Michael Auprince from Australia and James Crisp and Morgyn Peters from Great Britain.

Seniors - 2 Wins in a week for the seniors
Intermediate Championship 1st Round Replay Clann Na Banna 2-8 Naomh Eoin Bosco 0-15
Despite going down to 14 men for the last 15 minutes of the replayed 1st round championship game in Mayobridge the senior's held on for a well deserved victory and advanced to a quarter final meeting with Bredagh next Friday night 7th September in Newcastle with a 7pm throw in. All County Football League Division 3 Naomh Eoin Bosco 0-12 Attical 0-8 The seniors made it 2 wins in 7 days by defeating Attical by 4 points in Jack Mackin Park on Friday night. This win moves the team up to fourth place in the league with 3 games left to play and guarantees division 2 football for the team next season. Due to the championship quarter final on Friday night, we have not been informed of the date for the next league fixture. Let's make sure that we have a big turn-out on Friday night to support the lads in their quest to reach the championship semi -final.
U14 Girls Reach Championship Semi – Final
After a long break, the U14 Girls faced Ballymartin in the Championship on Sunday evening trying to emulate the success of the Junior Ladies.
The Bosco, who are flying high in the league, faced a Ballymartin team whom they only narrowly defeated when both met in the league so the scene was set for a very competitive encounter.
The future of under aged girls football looks very promising as the U14 squad were bolstered by a number of very talented U12 girls coached by Liam Quinn- E. Casey, N.Downey, A.McCade, N.Burns, O.Burke and A.Quinn. These players showed many of the regular U14 players how the game should be played as the team as a whole were very lack luster in the first half.
Vital points from D.Quinn and an opportunist goal from A.Jackson gave the Bosco a lead of 1.05 – 0.04 at half time.
After a swift team talk and a few positional changes things slowly began to turn around . Ballymartin found it difficult to match the Bosco’s growing commitment and endless foraging from O.Burke and especially A.Quinn.
S.OHare ,N.Osburne,V.Gratten and A Jackson soon began to find form with some fine team and individual scores. After a shaky first half at full back ,A Shortall was now dominating in this position . She was aided and abetted by a resolute combination of the Hackey sisters , C Doherty E Casey and a solid R Kelly in goals.
Late on in the second half “pocket rocket” N Downey entered the fray in some style. She helped the Bosco girls dominate in the last third of the field as they played some great attacking football at last !
Now with renewed belief in their abilities the scores continued to come as the girls dug deep and showed great determination. The final whistle blew with the score of 3.09 – 0.05 in favour of the Bosco Girls.
The Championship semi final will be played this Wednesday. All support would be welcome as the girls strive to emulate the magnificent achievement of the Junior Ladies.
U12 Girls
Following their success in the Bosco Tournament last week, the under 12 girls will travel to take part in the Carryduff tournament next Saturday 8th September 2012. Two teams have been entered with all 30 players expected to take part.
U10s
St John Bosco vs Whitecross Sunday 2nd September St Patrick’s P.S.
The U10’s hosted visitors Whitecross on Sunday in St Patrick’s Primary and once again rose to the occasion with great performances across the team.
Up against a strong physical team with several tall players the Bosco lads had their work cut out and took some time to get to grips with the opposition. David McCreesh at centre full back was given a man marking roll on the tallest player on the pitch and he literally played the game of his life. Matthew Monroe controlled the half back line and launched several Bosco attacks. Midfield duo Jack O’Hare and Michael MacNamara covered a lot of ground and supported the forwards with some great passing.
With a squad of 21 the Bosco had 6 subs which they used on a continual basis with everyone getting plenty of play. Indeed no sooner had Ciaran McAlinden come on as a sub when he latched onto a loose ball and hammered the ball into the back of the Whitecross net.
This was a great performance from the young lads in amber and blue and they now look forward to the return leg next Sunday in Whitecross
BOSCO FAMILY MIS FORTUNES
Plans are now at an advanced stage for the big club fundraiser in the CANAL COURT HOTEL on FRIDAY 9TH NOVEMBER 2012.
Tickets will be available in the Social Club from next month or from members of the main committee or finance committee. Tickets are £10 each and it promises to be a very entertaining night with big personalities going head to head in big challenges. Get your tickets early!

Under 16 Football
Cor Fhuinseoige 4-12 Tullach Sarain 5-07
Our under 16’s registered a 2 point win at home to a very strong Tullysaran side last Thursday night. Played at Carrickcruppen both sides started well trading points before the visitors scored a well worked goal. We replied immediately with a Lee Courtney point and a Conor Rice goal to put us ahead. At midfield Conor Loye and Ryan Courtney were winning their fair share to set up great chances but we were taking the wrong options, registering too many wides and balls falling short. Both sides were evenly balanced but again the visitors took their chance burying a quick free to the net but we finished the half strongly with points from Matthew Loughran, Ryan Courtney and a Conor Loye goal to leave it 2-06 to 2-04 in our favour.
On the restart a Ryan Courtney point put us 3 ahead but in the next attack a high ball deceived our keeper to go over the line to level it up. This seemed to rally our lads who racked up a series of scores from play and frees as the Tullysaran lads seemed intent on fouling every time we went forward. A Lee Courtney penalty which was quickly followed by a hard low drive to the corner of the net put us well ahead 4-11 to 3-06, but the visitors never gave up and kept coming hitting 2 quick goals. We replied with a Conor Loye point to leave 3 in it with time up, but the visitors came looking the equaliser only to be denied by Goalkeeper Ronan McMahon to push the effort over the bar leaving the final score 4-12 to 5-07. A great game by 2 very committed sides. Special praise to our half forwards Declan Loye & Lee Courtney who never stopped running the whole night and our rearguard, Aaron Cinnamond, Brendan McCorry, Dean Faloon and Keyonis Crozier who all did great work on the night. Thanks to Carrickcruppen for use of their field.
Under 12 Football
Belleeks v CORRINSHEGO 3-10v 1–3 Poor show from Thomas Davis!
This was two defeats in a row for Corrinshego under 12s and this defeat brought on by a weakened team and poor organisational skills. With Vice Captain Kyle Mooney and midfielder Jessica Watters missing, the side found it difficult to gain control of the midfield and hence they were unable to feed the forward line as often as the team usually would. Even Captain Matty Taggart found it difficult with so many bodies in midfield and sheer weight of numbers meant that the opposition were able to recycle the ball and outscore the Corrinshego team. In a tight first half it was Karl Treanor who stood out with a goal and a point. However the second saw few chances for the away side and apart from the fine scores from Jonjo Cranney and Brendan McLoughlin Belleeks ran out easy winners.

Under 14 Football
CORRINSHEGO v Grange 6 – 15 v 2 – 1 Last League Victory for Thomas Davis!
This was the final game for the Corrinshego under 14 panel and a victory which saw them claim a joint top position in the All Armagh League. This game and the result was put out of sight in the first half. Indeed it was Captain Declan Loye who scored first for the home side and the team never let up, as the Corrinshego boys scored five of their six goals in the first half, with Caolan Marron getting three of them. The away side then scored a goal before Ryan Gray replied with two goals for the home side. He also added two points to his tally in the first half, as did half forward Conor Jennings.
The scoring form of man of the match Ryan Gray and Coalan Marron continued in the second half with both chipping in with more points. It was also pleasing to see Adam Loughran picking the lock of the defence in the second half and scoring two points.
In the end Corrinshego deserved the win and they will now enter a playoff with An Port Mor for the league title.

Corrinshego under 16’s had a comprehensive win away at Newtown Emmetts last week at Dorsey. We started this game with a Lee Courtney point straight from the throw-in which settled us down well. Both sides showed well in the opening encounters with good open attacking football. But it was our ability to win clean possession at midfield where Conor Loye was on top form, this combined with great off the ball running by Conor Rice that opened up Newtown at the back where corner forward Matthew Loughran was clinical in his finishing. Further scores from Declan Loye and Caolan Marron had us 3-02 to 1-0 ahead at halftime.
On the restart the home side started with a good score as they aimed to reduce the deficit but were then continuously denied by our defence of Ronan McMahon, Breandain McCorry, Keyonis Crozier, Dean Faloon and Aaron Cinnamond who were all first to the ball all night, turning great defending into attack with excellent support play where the forward line of Conor Jennings, Declan Loye and Matthew Loughran put the game out of reach with 4 goals. Matthew Loughran top scoring on the night with a personal tally of 3-01 as we ran out winners 7-04 to 2-02.

On the Silverware Trail
It’s now September and it’s down to the business end of the season in gaelic football. The St John Bosco Club have the Down Junior Ladies Championship and the U14 League trophies in the cabinet in the Water Street clubrooms and several other teams are still in the mix for more silverware.

Seniors
Bredagh 2-8 St John Bosco 1-12
One thing's for sure, Bosco player's, management and supporters won't want too many night's like Friday night! 10 minutes into the game and the team were 8 points down! An unbelievably bad start. 2 mistakes, 2 goals and the boys were on the back foot straight away. Within a couple of minutes Bredagh had added 2 more points to leave the situation looking grim. The Bosco lads reduced the difference to 6 points by half time but when Bredagh scored the first point of the second half, things were not looking good.
However this Bosco team is made of tough stuff and they stayed calm, took excellent scores and eventually took the lead with 5 minutes remaining. The drama still wasn't over as Bredagh were awarded a penalty which they shot wide of the left hand post. This turned out to be their last opportunity and the Bosco lads held on to win by the minimum. A poor first half performance was more than compensated for by a spirited and gutsy second half display which has led to an appearance in the semi-final of the Intermediate Championship which is due to be played on a date over the weekend of 5th-7th October. The seniors still have 3 league games to play. Their nest fixture is a home game in Jack Mackin Park against Ballymartin next Saturday the 15th throw in at 5:00 p.m.

U14s
September 3rd 2012 - U14 South Down Championship Semi Final Sr John Bosco vs Drumgath.
Drumgath were the visitors to Jack Mackin Park for this latest encounter between these two well matched sides. Bosco had the upper hand in their two previous encounters and haven’t tasted defeat since June 20th.
Bosco won the toss and from the throw-in it was clear that Drumgath meant business. Indeed it was the solid work of Ciaran Byrne and the defence that halted their opening salvos. Three minutes in and a Bosco attack was illegally halted and Micheal Dillon converted the resultant free.
The breeze in the first half was considerable and favouring Bosco, they were going to have to rack up a significant cushion by half time. Drumgath were guilty of some wasteful play and conceding frees within the scoring zone which were duly despatched by Dillon.
Bosco quickly upped their workrate and Devin Quigley and Ruairi Lavery slotted some truly excellent points intelligently using the assistance of the breeze.
Drumgath were playing well and were really up for this game and managed to get the ball ahead of the Bosco defence who were left helpless as the ball was blasted into the net. The visitors also popped over a couple of nice points under pressure and were very much in contention.
The first half remained very physical with bookings inevitable and in one incident Kevin Boyle was despatched to the sideline for a striking offence when things boiled over. Bosco now reduced to 14 men had to dig deep and Ruairi Lavery managed to maximise an opportunity and buried the ball into the Drumgath net.
The half time score was Bosco 1:7 Drumgath 1:2 but the country boys were to enjoy the benefit of the breeze and an extra man in the second half.
The sizable crowd saw Drumgath hit a purple patch from the off with 4 unanswered points and the Bosco lads were really struggling to contain their relentless attacks. However the backs and midfield duo of Micheal Dillon and Martin Keenan worked hard maximising their aerial advantage. Paul Hadden was tireless and opened the second half account to leave them two points up. This settled Bosco and Ruairi belted in his second goal putting some daylight between the teams.
Devin Quigley pointed two real beauties and Darren McCabe who came on a sub was really nippy and also scored a wonderful point.
With 10 minutes to go Bosco were really motoring and effectively closed this contest out leaving the final scoreline: St. John Bosco 2:12 to Drumgath 1:8
Having won their league the Bosco U14 boys have a wonderful opportunity to do the double and we would encourage supporters to come along next Saturday to Pairc Esler to cheer on the boys in Royal and Amber!

Carryduff Tournament Saturday 8th September 2012
The under 10 and under 12 girls had an enjoyable day on Saturday at the annual Carryduff Tournament. 24 players made the trip and had the opportunity to play teams from Clann Eireann, Bredagh, Ardoyne Kickhams, St Bridies, St Enda’s and Aodh Ruadh. 12 clubs took part and Clann Eireann were the eventual winners of the cup. A special thanks to all the mentors and parents who provided the transport on the day.

St John Bosco vs St Killian’s Whitecross Sunday 9th September
The U10’s were away to St Killian’s on Sunday 9th in the return fixture of the game played a week previous.
Without Jack O’Hare, Padraig Gallagher, Pól Óg McCormack, Daniel Preece, Aidan McDonald, Ryan Shields and Josh McAleavy the lads in royal and amber were severely depleted and were up against a big strong Whitecross team. However once again the lads rose to the occasion and delivered a great performances from right across the team especially from captain Cathal McStay, Jack White, Ross Quigley Keith McGrath, Nathan Gribben and Calum McNulty who was just back from the holidays.
Next up for the U10s is an away fixture against Carrickcruppen on Sunday 16th.

Down GAA have launched their reduced price Championship Ticket.
In Down we are very lucky that a lot of patrons attend Championship Games in our County, there are loyal supporters who never miss a game once the Club Championship season takes off.
Down GAA has moved to acknowledge those patrons by offering a Down Championship Ticket for the reduced price of £30.00. This we feel represents real value for those wishing to attend our games and allows for a patron to attend up to 13 games not withstanding replays for the amount of £30.00, just over £2.00 per game.
This ticket will allow the patron admission to all games in the Senior, Intermediate and Junior Football Championships and the Senior Hurling Championship from this weekend. For £30.00 you gain entry to all the 2012 Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and the Finals, don’t forget that in Down, Under 16s are admitted free to all of our Championship games anyway.

As part of the Pride in Newry Festival, Newry and Mourne Museum will host a talk on Thursday 27th September at 7pm. This talk will complement “Sporting traditions through the Ages in Newry and Mourne” exhibition currently on display.
Gavin Boyd from the Rainbow project will look the issues facing those who feel excluded from participating in sport in his talk “Moving from exclusion to inclusion in sport”.
Many sportsmen and sportswomen developed their enthusiasm for their sport at school-age. But many LGB&T (lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender) young people feel excluded from participation in sport because of actual and perceived fears of homophobia.
Gavin will speak about the cultural changes that are needed to ensure that everyone’s sporting potential, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, can be supported.
Gavin will also discuss athletes who have come out as LGB&T and how this has affected their careers.
The talk will also explore how sporting culture has changed from the male-dominated football terraces of the 1980s to where we are today, when many women and families feel comfortable and welcome at football grounds.
