MATCH REPORT
An Céide 2-03 Tomás Dáibhis 4-11 09 Bealtaine 2013
Thomas Davis under 16’s got back to winning ways with a great away win at Keady last Thursday night. Played in very wet conditions both sides defences took a while to adjust to the fast ball into the forward lines. We opened the scoring with a Conor Jennings point quickly followed with a Declan Loye goal, a great solo run and a neat return pass from Matthew Loughran left the keeper no chance. The home side replied with a goal well worked from their own defence. Both sides were trading scores point for point until the home side finished another move to our net, this gave them the upper hand as we had the advantage of the breeze. But our lads responded immediately, a great kickout from Ronan McMahon was ably fielded by Lee Courtney who ran through the heart of the Keady defence with Caolan Marron supporting him off the shoulder, put him straight through on goal hitting it hard and low to the corner of the net, that was the game changer as our lads piled on the pressure hitting 3 further points leaving it at halftime 2-06 to 2-03.
Although leading, we faced a very strong breeze which the Thomas Davis lads understood would require a bigger work ethic to maintain their lead & win this game so for the next 30 minutes the played like never before. First to every ball and great support play made sure we got the next 3 points in the game & a good 6 point lead. Keady were now forced into counterattacking but great defensive work from Dean Faloon, Aaron Cinnamond & Breandáin McCorry continually turned defence into attack, which lead to Declan Loye hitting an unstoppable shot to the top corner of the net. With 10 minutes left Jonny Tumlity sealed the victory with a great individual goal, further points from Caolan Marron & Lee Courtney finished off a great night that will live long in the memory as the lads kept Keady scoreless in the second half playing against a strong breeze to run out eventual winners 4-11 to 2-03.

Senior Football / Peil Sinsir
Thomas Davis Corrinshego GFC 1-9 St. Patrick’s Dromintee II 0-1
Once again the men in maroon played in dreadful underfoot conditions to record another win and remain undefeated in their league.
Just like last week in Darkley, the weather was very poor with constant rain which left large puddles all over the pitch. Corrinshego started with another changed line up, most notably young David Hankin making his senior debut in goals and Seamus Morgan coming in at corner forward, after his recent pro-longed transfer from Carrickcruppin.
On 2 mins a good ball fielded by D. Lenaghan fed Stepen Trainor who crashed the ball of the crossbar. One minute later after good inter-change between A.McCourt and Shane Mc Ardle, put D. McGreevy straight on goal, but unfortunately his effort went narrowly wide. On 6mins Ryan O’Reilly had another shot wide, but Ryan atoned for this error when on 8mins when he scored the opening point after a very good kick –out by D.Hankin.
Moments later Ryan O’Reilly had made it 0-2 after being put through by D. Lenaghan. On 10mins Dromintee raised a white flag to leave it 0-2 to 0-1. Stephen Trainor settled the nerves with a point on 13mins. Two minutes later Corrinshego were unlucky when a 45m went narrowly wide from R.O’Reilly. On 18mins Niall McVerry was fouled when he was about to score but the resultant free dropped short. On 22minutes R.O’Reilly scored from a free after James Dinsmore was fouled. On 25 mins Paul Heatley replaced N. McVerry and immediately made an impact when he delivered a great ball to D. Lenaghan who in turn extended the Corrinshego lead. On the stoke of half –time Shane McArdle scored another point to leave the score at half-time 0-6 to 0-1.
On the resumption Neil Markey replaced the veteran Aidy McCourt and made an instant impact by scoring a point on 31mins. Moments later a high ball by Neil Markey was punched on by Paul Heatley but James Martin in the Dromintee nets saved the effort. On 36 minutes Mark Bradshaw replaced Mark Mc Ateer at half back. On 38mins a good movements resulted in a low shot to the Dromintee net by danger man Neil Markey. On 47 minute substitute Cathal Trainor went on a run and scored a fine point to make it 1-8 to 0-1. The game went through the motions for the remaining 13minutes with Corrinshego shooting many wides until Paul Heatley scored on the 57min to leave the final score 1-9 to 0-1. There were many positives in this game such as the debut of both Seamus and David but the wide count of 24 plus is a concern. Next week we play the mighty Pearse Ogs which might determine who wins this league! All at Corrinshego would like to wish the ‘daddy’ of the team Adrian McCourt a very Happy 37th Birthday tomorrow!!

Legendary Armagh captain Steven McDonnell got involved with a completely different club this week when he officially launched the Barry Malone Memorial Golf Classic.
The event is being organised by St Killian’s GAC, Whitecross and will take place at Ashfield Golf Club Cullyhanna on Saturday, June the 15th.
With Armagh’s Ulster Championship clash against Cavan on this Sunday at 2pm, McDonnell insisted he will be resisting the urge to return to the Orchard jersey but instead will be focusing on improving his handicap on the golf course.
Barry was a key member of the Whitecross football club who tragically died in October 2012 and the Golf Classic will be held in his memory.
It is a four-ball competition and £30 per player or £120 per team, and £50 to sponsor a tee-box, with 50 per cent of the proceeds going to the St Killian’s club and the other 50 per cent going to the Whitecross Community Association.
Golfers and none golfers are welcome to attend Barry’s Memorial Day in what should be a fitting tribute.
To book your place, sponsor a hole or tee-box then call either P McGuinness on 07512731860, Con McParland on 07764673435, Tracey Lloyd on 02830833533 or email tlloyd@mac-interiors.com.
St John Bosco GAC U14’s
Bosco 5-14 Saval 3-05
Don't be fooled by this scoreline, this was a much tighter game than the final score suggests. Indeed this week there is a contest to report on. Bosco travelled to Saval on Monday last to meet the only team that managed to defeat them last season.
Played in a strong swirling wind this game was very evenly matched in the first half. Bosco gained the upper hand with scores from James Harkin (5points) and Kane Rossiter (2goals) in fine form. However Saval kept themselves in the game with 2-02 of their own. In fact only for some excellent saves from Ronan Haughey in the Bosco net we could have easily been behind at halftime. Saval forwards were proving a handful and the Bosco defence had to work hard to contain them.
One aspect of the game causing concern was the mounting free count against Bosco.
At halftime Bosco mentors used the famous 'hairdryer' treatment to get a response from the team. This seemed to do the trick as Bosco gradually asserted control in the second half and began to play the way they can. Oran Keenan, Glenn Hanna and Tiarnan Holmes took control in defence which provided the platform for Bosco dominance. James Harkin certainly had his shooting boots on, finishing the game with 14 points. Kane Rossiter was ice cool in front of goal, bagging a total of 5 goals. Saval were restricted to 1-03 in the second half meaning we ended with a comfortable win.
Monday night its home to Mitchels, no doubt another tough battle.
St John Bosco GAC U10’s
The U10’s travelled out to St Pauls Secondary School pitch to play Shane O’Neill’s on Sunday.
With 20 players showing up for St John Bosco and 12 for Shane O’Neill’s the Bosco and Shane’s mentors agreed to field four teams. Bosco Gaels, Bosco Ógs, Shane O’Neill’s Gaels and the fourth team was Shane O’Neill’s Ógs which comprised a mix of Shane’s and Bosco players.
The Gaels game was a strong match with some fine examples of excellent skills and hard football from both teams. With Matthew Monroe and Calum Grey missing the Bosco team were without their regular fullback line. These slots were filled by Nathan Gribben and Cormac Flannigan who played superbly restricting the Shane’s forwards to long range shooting.
The Ógs game with Bosco men in the green jerseys of Shane O’Neill’s saw some great tussles between ‘teammates’ with Aidan O’Hare marking Pádraig Caldwell, Callum Quinn marking Ciaran McAlinden and Cormac White coming head to head with Dessie McAleavy.
Next up for the U10’s is the Go Game blitz hosted by St John Bosco GAC on Saturday in jack Mackin Park at 10:00 a.m.
Both St John Bosco U10 teams are developing well and playing some great football. With the Newry City Fun Run on Sunday 26th there is no U10 football on Sunday.

Extra time was written all over the Ulster Minor Football Championship preliminary round clash at Breffni Park between Armagh and Cavan with the sides level or thereabouts for virtually the entire game.
Unfortunately Cavan's Brian McConnell put paid to that with a winning point deep into injury time.
Cavan Seniors completed the job started by their Minor team at Breffni Park in Cavan yesterday at the preliminary round of the Ulster Senior Football Championship when they beat Armagh by four points sending them on a mystery tour of Ireland via the back door, whether it will be magical or not remains to be seen.
In front of a crowd of over 12,000 Cavan took control of the game with the teams going in to half time Armagh 0:4 to Cavan 1:6.
A goal scored by Jamie Clarke could have so easily marked the game turning in Armagh's favour but the referee had apparently already awarded a free in and the goal was disallowed.
Ethan Rafferty's goal for Armagh ten minutes from time again had the potential of advancing a win, with the teams trailing by a solitary point but Cavan responded with four unanswered points two from Cavan's Martin Dunne who notched up a superb nine points and that was that.
Final Score Armagh 1:11 Cavan 1:15

Newtownhamilton V Corrinshego u14s 4-6 v 3-9
This top of the table clash saw the Corrinshego boys drop their first points of the season in a tightly fought draw away from home.
The boys were once again leading at half time 3-4 to 2-3 only to let another lead slip. It was refreshing to see more of the forwards get amongst the scoring this game, with Conor Mallon getting the opening goal after a sustained amount of Corrinshego pressure. Midfielder Conor Jennings scored a point from distance, before the tireless work of Ryan Connolly paid off, as he burst the back of the net with a strong right foot shot. Newtown responded with their own scores, quickly grabbing two goals back, before vice captain Adam Loughran steadied the ship with three points in a row. Ryan Connolly once again got amongst the goals at the end of the first half, extending Corrinshego's lead. However the second half saw a resurgent Newtown and they once again struck two goals, one hitting the top corner, leaving Matthew Taggart, who played well, with no chance in goals. In the end it was the point scoring of young Loughran who saved the day with 5 points in the second half. He even had the chance to win the game with a last minute penalty, but his strike hit the bar. This result still leaves the boys top of the table though, so all in all a good point away from home!

Ladies Football / Peil na mBan
A little piece of history was created on Sunday past when the first ever all girls team took to the field in their first ever competitive game against mullabawn. Conditions were terrible but both teams must be congratulated on an entertaining game of football. Mullabawn were deserved winners but this young corrinshego team battled hard and gave a great account of themselves. Stand out performers were Lilly Corry in goals and colleen loye at full back. Danielle mcchlorey took some nice scores and there was also a nice score from nicole mccann. Well done girl's and keep up the good work!

Under 16 Football / Peil Faoi 16
Tomás Dáibhis 1-11 Cladaí 1-03
Thomas Davis under 16’s had a comfortable victory over a young Clady side at St.Pauls school field last Thursday night. The writing was on the wall early on when Lee Courtney finished to the net after good approach work from Declan Loye & Caolan Marron. It was one way traffic with forwards Matthew Loughran & Jonny Tumilty hitting points from play. Clady tried hard but our defence was on top form with Dean Faloon, Breandáin McCorry & Aaron Cinnamond snuffing out any threat.
In the second period our dominance continued with some good long range scores from Keyonis Crozier & Declan Loye which sealed the contest but fair play to Clady, they battled till the end for every ball and got their just rewards with a well executed penalty and a few scores from play but on the night, Thomas Davis had the edge in most departments to take another 2 league points.
Training continues every Sunday Morning at 10.45am at the Club Grounds. New members welcome. Contact Anthony Havern 07805853032
Under 18 Football / Peil Faoi 18
Madden 4-2 Oliver Plunketts 2-10
The minors 5th league of the league was to take place at home but due to a waterlogged pitch the fixture was reversed to Maddens home pitch so once again we had to travel. On a blustery night the boys playing with the wind started the quicker with the first 4 points in the first 15 minutes three coming from the boot of Sean Thompson and one from Phelim Finnegan. Madden were very dangerous on the break against the wind but the boys kept the pressure on and had them pinned in their own half for long periods of the first half .
Two quick points from Jordan King had the boys six points up but a goal from Madden after attacking the full length of the pitch reduced the arrears. With five mins left to halftime a strong solo run from Conor Loye found Ryan Magill who finished the move by hitting the back of the net leaving the halftime score 1-6 1-0. Once again the boys hit seven wides in the first half so time would tell if this would come back to haunt them. Two minutes after the restart a high ball caused havoc and the ball ended up in the back off the net. Within five minutes of the second half the ball once again ended up with the green flag being raised after a penalty was awarded from a foul by the goalkeeper. The boys heads could off went down but they then started to get more of the ball and a great ball from Sean Thompson to Decky Loye who dummied the oncoming goalkeeper rattled the back of the net to give the boys belief. Jordan King tagged on another point and another lung busting run from Conor Loye resulted with another point.
Madden to their credit kept battling away to the end but some terrific defending from Jamie Fields,Niall Canning, Mickey McCrory, Lee Courtney and Captain Mark McAteer kept the home side at bay. Some unselfish play from full forward Charlie Magill and Phelim Finnegan resulted in a good away win in a hard fought contest. Next game at home to table topping Granemore on Monday 20th May throw in 7.15pm. Come out and support these young lads.
Training continuing every Monday 7.30pm at the Club Grounds. New members welcome. Contact Tony Loye 07810883454.

Thomas Davis Corrinshego GFC 2-13 Pearse Og’s 1-9
The long awaiting clash of Thomas Davis Corrinshego and Pearse Og’s finally took place on Friday evening at the Og’s venue after Corrinshego were forced to reverse the fixture due to the Craobh Rua pitch being unplayable. Members , mentors and everyone connected to Corrinshego were excited about the first every meeting at senior level between these clubs and the prospect of leading the division by night-time if we defeat our Armagh City rivals.
After all the training and preparations, this was the game that mattered! Gerry O’ Reilly’s young team started with many positional changes from the Dromintee game, most notably Karl Kimmins replacing David Hankin in goals, Ryan McWilliams coming into midfield to partner David Lenaghan and a forward line which saw the introduction of CathalTrainor, Phelim Finnegan , David Murphy and Liam Quinn.
From the thrown –in Corrinshego started in earnest and had a point on the board in the opening minute from the boot of Phelim Finnegan. One minute later Liam Quinn crashed the ball off the cross-bar . On 4mins Corrinshego doubled their total when Ryan O’Reilly pointed a free after Gary Gorman of Pearse Og handled the ball on the ground.
Brendan McLoughlin of Pearse Og’s was causing havoc every time he got the ball and the Og’s raced into a 1-5 to 0-2 lead. O’ Reilly’s charges didn’t panic and on 18mins David Murphy hit the back on the Og’s to bring Corrinshego back into the game. Great work by John McIlroy who retrieved an almost lost ball, set up Cathal Trainor for another point. On 20mins R. O’Reilly pointed another free. On 24 mins James Dinsmore was fouled while going forward and R.O’Reilly pointed the resultant free. Another pointed free from Phelim Finnegan stretched the lead. On 28mins Cathal Trainor scored a fine point after good work by P. Finnegan and Seamus Morgan. On 31mins Ryan McWilliams kicked Thomas Davis’ final point of the half to leave the score 1-9 to 1-6 in favour of the Newry men.
On the resumption the Og’s stepped up a gear and scored the first two point of the second half. On 35mins a converted free from Ryan O’reilly settled Corrinshego nerves. On 38mins David Lenaghan added to the Corrinshego total. On 41mins C. Trainor scored an inspirational score after the Og’s had hit the back of the net again. However, on 51mins David Murphy ran at the heart of the Og’s defence and shot low and hard into the net for a 2-12 to 2-9 lead. Three minutes later Ryan O’ Reilly scored an insurance point from a 21m free. Overall this was a very encouraging and heart-warming display from a very spirited team.

Down swept past Derry with a trio of goals at Pairc Esler on Saturday in the Christy Ring Quarter final.
This competition had reached the second knock out round and was a winner takes all contest so to speak, with the losers having a few weeks rest before their Ulster championship campaign began.
In very wet conditions and not a great day for hurlers to perform the game began and within 4mins Derry were leading 2points to 1 with a free from Paddy Henry and a point from Brendan Rodgers, the Down score came from Paul Braniff with a strong run down the stand side and cool finish.
The rain was playing its part though and there were no more scores until the 23rd minute when Aaron Kelly picked up a loose ball to point from 30m. Scott Nicholson responded for Down when he excellently fielded out on the wing and struck it sweetly over for the point.
Danny Toner then had a shot for goal brilliantly tipped over by Mc Dermott in the Derry nets and the score was 3points each after 30 minutes.
On 32 mins Down took the lead for the first time with a point from Gareth Johnston, Hinphey responded for Derry, and with points from frees for Braniff and one for Derry form Henry the teams went in at half time on 5points each.
The second half started with much the same conditions and probably both teams knew that it wasn’t going to be a high scoring affair and that a goal would be a major factor in the outcome of the contest.
Points were exchanged between Braniff and Henry to leave it six each. Then on six minutes Derry were awarded a penalty and the chance for the goal had come, Alan Johnston struck poorly though and it was easily saved and cleared by the `down defence. Down had introduced Cormac Flynn for Ciaran Coulter and Micheal Turley For Kevin Mc Garry and Derry had brought in Brendan Quigley early in the half,
Derry then added a point this time from Paddy Kelly. The game as a contest was to take a major turn in the 12 minute of the second half Michael Ennis came through the heart of the Derry defence with a superb run only to be brutally taken out by Hinphey after he had passed the ball, from the resultant free just outside the 21 directly in front of the goals Braniff stepped up and drilled it to the top corner and Down had the goal
Game changing this proved to be and from the puck out Down again picked up the ball and with a quick delivery into the inside forward line Turley had slipped his man and as he and the keeper went to contest the high ball he was able to get the most delicate touch and it nestled in the corner of the net just inside the left post. Down were suddenly five points up and with scores at a premium in the conditions it was a major turning point for the mournemen.
Derry added points from a Henry free and Mc Closkey, but Down were well on top at his stage and with Turley again sticking over from well out on the wing on the halfway line they were finishing the stronger team.
Derry were awarded a very dubious penalty on 28 minutes but today was not going to be their day as it was again saved on the line by Down and easily cleared to safety, the score was to remain 2.07 to 0.09 until injury time when Johnny Mc Cusker who had replaced Coyle on 34mins stepped up to take a great goal after he had been found inside by a great delivery from Fintan Conway he rounded the keeper to finish to an empty net and the game was over. With Down running out winners by 3.07 to 0.09.
This was a very hard fought win in very bad conditions for hurling with lots of mistakes from both sides.
Down were to prove to be the much stronger team in the second half with it being fairly even over the first 35mins.
When the game opened up a bit in the second half Down were the much better side. Gerard Monan will be happy with the win and the substitutions worked well for him on the day. He will be hoping that some of his players struggling with knocks are able to recover as they now face Meath in the semi final next Saturday.
Final Score: Down 3.07 Derry 0.09
Craobh Rua Camlocha Sinsir / Seniors
Castleblayney 5.13 Craobh Rua Camlocha 3.10.
The seniors travelled to Castleblayney this week and despite the severe weather conditions took part in what was a very entertaining game of hurling. With a strong wind at their back Blayney forged ahead and at the break seemed out of sight of the visitors. In the second half Craobh Rua started at a blistering rate and pinned the hosts into their half of the field for most of twenty minutes. However Blayney weathered the elemental and sporting storms to ease home in the last five minutes. This week Craobh Rua seniors face Killeavey in the Armagh league on Tuesday night.
Faoi 16,18 / U16s / U18s
There is a break in fixtures owing to exam pressures but team coach Sean Mac Diarmada will be in touch this week with the panel to work out suitable arrangements to bridge this busy period.
Faoi 14 / Under 14s
Our U14s travelled to Middletown and recorded a useful win over the home side. The game was a hard fought affair with Middletown’s Na Fianna making the best of a strong wind in the first half to open up a 5 point gap at the interval. However, the Camloch boys really rose to the task in the second half with a spirited display of hooking and blocking coupled with some fine scores, much to the surprise of the local spectators. Na Fianna did have a chance to steal the game almost on the final whistle but were denied by Craobh Rua custodian Pearse Mc Glade who saved brilliantly from almost point blank range. Craobh Rua Camlocha hurlers included: Eoin Donaghy , Ruairí Fearon, James Mc Verry, Patrick Garvey, Óisín Cooney, Shea Craven, Pearse Mc Glade, Ronan Crilly, Peter McVerry, Oisin Fearon,Cormac Feeley,Cailum Craven, Conor Mc Keown, Shea Craven, Cormac Murphy, Lee Mc Keown, Tiarnán O Hare. All under 14s please note that we have a home league game against Cú Chulainns this Monday night at 7pm. The match will be played at St Paul’s school pitch.
Faoi 12 / Under 12s
The U12 league continued this week and our U12s were involved in a very competitive game at home against Middletown. As with the above senior and U14 games the wind was still blowing and whilst by half time the Fianna boys had opened up a healthy lead it was always a doubt if they had done enough. In the second half the Camloch boys went all out and their mentors Fiachra Bradley, Pearse Casey and Paul Watters could only be impressed with the efforts of their charges who put in what proved a match winning performance in challenging conditions. U12 training continues on Monday and Thursday evenings at 6.30pm.
Faoi 8,10 / Under 8, 10s
