Cul Camps, have become increasingly popular. It was not so long ago that we were only able to hold a few Camps each year within the County and therefore, I will be well pleased if we surpass last year when we were able to meet the demand for 39 Camps with 5 new camps which facilitated a total of 3,212 children up around 300 from previous year, which the children can enjoy the skills of Football, Camogie and Hurling.
Down GAA will once again be running nursery camps this summer. The nursery camps will be for children who were enrolled in P1 or P2 from Sept 2009 - June 2010. The nursery camps will run from 10am - 12.30pm at a cost of £25 per child. This CANNOT be booked online. The Cul Camps will be run from 10am - 2.30pm daily and will be open to children who will be starting P4 from Sept 2010. The maximum age limit for the Cul Camp is 13yrs. The Cul Camp will cost £35 per child. They get a knapsack with a full strip a medal. The children will be coach by Down stars in Hurling, Football, Camogie and Ladies Football.
Ryan McConville from Armagh will be the Active Communities Coach for Newry City Football Club. He will be announced to the supporters before today’s senior match against Warrenpoint Town FC. Photo call 2pm at the Showgrounds.
Ryan has been chosen ahead of a very competitive list of applicants which included submissions from across the province. He has a wealth of experience and is currently working toward his Uefa A Licence. Ryan has held coaching positions within the IFA Excellence programme and has recently savoured success with Armagh Ladies GAA.
The Active Communities’ Council representatives and Newry City FC believe they have appointed a highly conscientious and motivated coach to deliver participation opportunities for Community Groups and Schools. He will support and help grow both the Newry City Special Olympics Squad and the hugely successful girls’ development squad.
His first taste of life at the Club will be to oversee and promote the Newry City Summer Camp held at the Showgrounds 2nd -5th August.
Children aged 5-7 from 10.00am-12.00pm and for ages 8-13 from 1.00pm-3.00pm. Forms can be obtained from the Office or by emailing joanne@newrycityfc.com Places are limited so book now to make sure that you don't miss out.
Active Communities is a Sport NI programme with the aim of increasing participation in active lifestyles.
Newry City FC is proud to welcome Ryan and is committed to supporting him in his efforts to promote healthier, more active opportunities for our Community.
Members of the Ulster Squad of the Special Olympics team who all reside in the Newry and Mourne area were honoured with a Civic Reception hosted by Mayor Mick Murphy after winning an incredible 42 medals in the Special Olympics Ireland Games held in Limerick
Speaking at the Reception Mayor Murphy said:
To win an Olympic medal is the height of any athletics sporting career and you have all done Newry and Mourne proud.
In every sport, from aquatics, football, Kayaking and Bowling, each one of you put your heart and soul into the games and this is evident in the number of medals you won.
However, this could not have been achieved without the input of the coaches who travelled to the games; Without these people it would be impossible to run this event. These were the people who were there for the athletes to ensure that they were safe and that they were having the time of their lives.
The sponsorship drive showed Newry and Mourne as an area of outstanding generosity. The Mayor at the time Mr John Feehan and Big O led the drive. Thousands of pounds were raised from the people of Newry and Mourne and without this sponsorship the team could have competed in Limerick.
In conclusion could I once again congratulate the team. You have been great ambassadors for your families, your communities and for the whole of Newry and Mourne.
Well done and can I wish each and every one of you every success in the future.
