Two men have been arrested early this morning following damage to wreaths and crosses at the Cenotaph at Bank Parade in Newry.
CCTV operators observed a male throwing wreaths and crosses from the cenotaph into the canal at 12.20am on Sunday, 11 May. A second male was then also seen throwing a wreath.
PSNI officers attended immediately and arrested a 20 year old man for disorderly behaviour and criminal damage and a 42 year old man for criminal damage, disorderly behaviour, obstructing police and indecent behaviour.

Police in Newry are appealing for information after a report of criminal damage at the Drumalane Park area in the early hours of Sunday 11th May
At around 3:30am, it was reported that two males were fighting in the area. Later in the morning, it was reported that a car parked in the area had its drivers' side front and rear windows broken.
Both wing mirrors were also broken and police believe those involved in the altercation earlier might be able to assist with police enquiries regarding the vehicle damage. Enquiries are continuing and police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any other information that could assist the investigation.

Police in Newry are appealing for information after a report of an assault at the High Street area on Sunday past 25th May.
At around 10:50pm, it was reported that a group of youths were walking between Water Street and the High Street tunnel when they were approached by an unknown male. It is believed that a verbal altercation occured between the male and one of the male youths, when a female in the group received a bite to her hand by the male. The female was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment to her injuries that are not believed to be serious.
Police would ask anyone who may have witnessed this assault or who has any information to contact them at Newry on the non emergency number 101. The Police Service of Northern Ireland has today launched a further recruitment drive for Police Constables from the Newry area.
Temporary Deputy Chief Constable Alistair Finlay said the number of applicants in the previous campaign is testament to the enthusiasm that exists in Northern Ireland for public service.
“As someone who has seen firsthand the experiences and rewards that come with serving the community I am strongly encouraged by the interest we had in last year’s campaign and look forward to seeing more applicants apply in this next phase.
“There is no question that the recruitment process is rigorous however it has been developed to ensure that the very best candidates will go forward to be offered a place on the training programme. To ensure that potential candidates have all the information they need there are a number of familiarisation events currently running throughout Northern Ireland addressing all aspects of the process, including the Physical Competence Assessment.

Police in Warrenpoint are appealing for information after reports of fraudulent activity in the Newry area this month
On Saturday 10th May, it was reported that bank cards were stolen in the Quay's area. It is believed that a sum of money was withdrawn from an account on Thursday 15th May. On Saturday 17th May, it was reported that a similar incident occured when a card was used to purchase items in Belfast and Newry. Enquiries are continuing.
Police would appeal to anyone who is a victim of this activity to contact their bank and to report the incident to police on the new non-emergency number 101.

Police in Newry have arrested a man following the seizure of suspected drugs.
Officers were on patrol in the Old Warrenpoint Road area on Wednesday evening, 28 May when they observed a man walking along with a plastic bag. Police approached the male and conducted a search under the Misuse of Drugs Act. A box containing a bag of white powder and a set of scales were seized.
The 24 year old male ran off but was detained by police and arrested.
A small packet of white powder and a number of blue tablets were also seized during a subsequent search, in addition to a stanley type blade.
The 24 year old man was later released on bail pending further enquiries.

Police in Newry are appealing for information following an alleged assault on a 47 year old man in Talbot Street in Newry.
Sometime between 2am and 3am on Saturday, 31 May, the man was walking past licensed premises when he was approached by a male who asked him for tobacco. This male then went on to assault him, kicking him as he fell to the ground.
The injured party sustained facial injuries which required medical treatment.

Police in Newry have arrested a 30 year old male following an assault on Canal Street at the weekend.
At 2.53am on Saturday, a 22 year old man was assaulted by a male on Canal Street. A second male came to the assistance of the first victim and was also assaulted.
Police attended and following enquiries at the scene arrested a 30 year old man shortly before 5am on suspicion of GBH, AOABH and possession of Class A and B drugs. He was later released on bail pending further enquiries.

Police in Newry are appealing for information following a burglary in Rock Close.
Some time between 1pm and midnight on Saturday, 21 June, entry was forced to the house. A sum of cash and quantity of jewellery were taken.
