Police in Newry are appealing for information after a car was set alight at North Street early on New Years Day.
Constable Shelley Kearney said: “We received a report of a car on Fire on North Street around 7.42am on Thursday, 1 January. NIFRS attended and extinguished the fire.
“We are treating this fire as suspicious and would like to hear from anyone who has information in relation to this incident. We can be contacted in Newry on 101., quoting ref: 757010115.”
Damage was also caused to another car earlier in December. Constable Giles Magee explained: “Sometime between 8.30am and 6.40pm on Monday, 22 December, the soft top of a Mazda MX5 car, parked in a car park between Buttercrane Shoppping Centre and Crash Services on St Mary Street, was cut. The steering column of the car was damaged in what we believe was an attempt to steal it.
“We would like to hear from anyone who noticed any activity in the area during this time or has information in relation to this incident. We can be contacted at Ardmore Police Station on 101, quoting ref: 1140221214.”

Police in South Down are becoming increasingly concerned about the whereabouts of 68 year old Aileen Finch who has gone missing from the Ballymartin area.
Aileen left her home during the night (14 January) and has not been seen since.
She is described as being 5ft 6in tall, of slim build with short, light brown hair which has fair highlights. She is understood to be wearing a purple windproof jacket, a woollen hat and tracksuit leggings.
Sergeant Kelly Anne Warnock said: "We are concerned about Aileen not least because is considered vulnerable and has restricted mobility due to recent surgery. If you have seen her or have any information in relation to her whereabouts, please contact us in Kilkeel on 101."

Police in Newry are appealing for information following the report of the theft of machinery from a bowling club in the Warrenpoint Road area. The theft is believed to have taken place sometime between Thursday 8th and Wednesday 14th January and it is thought that a van or a lorry would have been used in the removal of the machinery.
Sergeant Colin Massey is appealing for anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area or who has been offered gardening equipment for sale to contact officers at Ardmore on 101 quoting reference 477140115. In the early hours of Friday 23 January, two men aged 34 and 35 were arrested in the Rostrevor area on suspicion of two counts of burglary, theft and theft of a vehicle.
Detective Constable David Skillen said: "The arrests were made at approximately 1.30am and a car and caravan have been seized.
It is believed that the arrests may be in connection with burglaries in the County Down and County Armagh areas in the past couple of days.
Our enquiries are ongoing and I would appeal to anyone who was in any of these areas and may have noticed people or vehicles acting suspiciously to contact detectives in Newry on the non-emergency number 101. or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Police in Newtownhamilton are appealing for information following the theft of a van in Camlough.
Constable Sean Bell explained: “Sometime between 3.10pm and 3.25pm on Monday, 19 January, a white Ford Transit, registration REZ 8903, was taken from a building site at Carrickcruppen Heights, Quarter Road. The van has a short wheel base and is medium height with a ladder on the rear door leading to the roof rack. It also has a large, rusty scrape on the driver’s side. The van contained a large quantity of work tools.

Police in Newry are appealing for information following an assault in an alley way close to the Post Office Sorting Office.
Constable Matty Reaney explained: “Sometime between 10.45pm and 11pm on Monday, 26 January, a 27 year old man was walking through an alley, behind the Post Office Sorting Office on Edward Street, when he passed a younger male who engaged him in conversation. Another male approached and punched the victim to the chin. The man ran off from the two males who pursued him for a short distance.
“The man sustained a facial injury which required medical treatment.
“The male who engaged the man in conversation is described as being around 19 years old, of slim build with short, black, bushy hair and a pointed nose. He spoke with a local accent and was wearing blue jeans and a blue coat. The second male is described as being around 30 years of age, of solid build with a swarthy complexion and dark hair, shaved round the sides and long on top, He was wearing a t-shirt and black combat trousers and spoke with a local accent.

Following the discovery of pipe bomb type devices at Parkhead Crescent in Newry in February last year Detectives from Serious Crime Branch have charged a 19 year old man with possession of explosives with intent to endanger life. The man along with another man were arrested in the city yesterday.
The 19 year old is due to appear at Newry Magistrates Court on Wednesday 4th March.
A 32 year old man who was also arrested in connection with the investigation has been released pending a report to the PPS.

Police in South Armagh have arrested two men following the seizure of drugs.
Constable Sean Bell explained: “On Friday night, 30 January, we received a report of an intoxicated male refusing to a pay a taxi fare in Bessbrook. We attended and spoke to the male who was subsequently searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act. A quantity of suspected class A and B drugs were seized and the 27 year old man was arrested for possession of Class A and B drugs and making off without payment.
“We conducted a further search of a property in Orior Park, Bessbrook, and recovered a quantity of suspected cannabis and suspected Diazepam tablets. A 41 year old man was arrested on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs.
“Both men have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
“We are aware of local concerns around drug misuse in the area and we are proactively patrolling in order to detect and apprehend any offenders. We are asking for your continued support – if you have information about drugs or any criminal activity in your area, please phone us on 101.”

Police in Newry are appealing for information following an assault that occurred in the Belfast Road area on the evening of Saturday 14th of February.
A 21 year old man was reportedly assaulted by a number of males in the area, sometime between 10.30pm and 10.50pm. He required hospital treatment for his injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.
Constable Jonny Hart said: “Three men aged 24, 20 and 20, were arrested in the Newry area on Thursday 19 February in relation to the incident. They were later released on police bail pending further enquiries.
“I would ask anyone with any information about this incident to contact Ardmore Police Station on the non-emergency number 101.
