Detectives in Newry are investigating a number of burglaries in the Newry area and have made an appeal for information.
Detective Sergeant Trish Bardon said, “There was a burglary in the Cleary Crescent area of Newry yesterday, Saturday 16th January where a sum of cash was taken.
Two further burglaries are also reported to have occurred on Saturday at properties in the O’Neill Avenue area of Newry.
It is believed these burglaries have occurred in the late afternoon/early evening.
Detectives from Newry Reactive and Organised Crime are keen to hear from witnesses or anyone with information. The number to call is 101. Alternatively information can be passed via the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.”

Police in Newry are appealing for information following two burglaries with a quantity of jewellery stolen from one home.
Sometime between 5pm on Saturday, 23 January and 1am on Sunday, 24 January entry was gained to houses in Thomas Street and Church Street. A gold ring and gold chain were stolen from Church Street.
Detective Constable Gina Quinn said: “We would like to hear from anyone who noticed any suspicious activity or vehicles in these areas during these times. We can be contacted in Newry on 101, quoting ref: 1081 240116.”

Two people have been arrested in Poyntzpass and a quantity of heroin seized after a car was stopped in the Church Street area last night.
The arrests were made by Detectives from Reactive and Organised Crime Branch.
Detective Inspector Keith Gawley said: “The suspects, a 23 year old woman and a 38 year old man, were arrested on suspicion of possession of a class A controlled drug and possessing a class A controlled drug with intent to supply and are currently in custody assisting police with their enquiries.
The Detective continued “We have recovered a sizeable amount of heroin, estimated to have a street value in excess of £8000, and prevented potential harm to many people as a result of this operation. We are determined to reduce the availability of this killer drug and I appeal to anyone who has any concerns or information about illegal drugs to contact their local Police on the non-emergency number 101. Police are appealing for information following a theft from a garden in Meigh.
Sometime between Tuesday, 19 January and Friday, 22 January, a life size bronze statue of a man and woman sitting on a bench reading a book was stolen from the garden of a house on Newtown Road, Meigh. The statue is large and heavy and would have required a vehicle or trailer to transport it.

Police are appealing for information following the theft of two cars on Tierney Road, Newry.
Sometime between 10am and 1pm on Wednesday, 13 January, a gold Vauxhall Nova and Ford Poplar were taken from the shed of the property on Tierny Road.
A side valve engine, an Austin engine and an duck egg green Austin shell from 1960s vehicles were also taken.
A flat bed lorry was observed leaving the property in 13 January and driving off in the direction of the dual carriageway.

Sometime between Friday, 22 January and Sunday, 24 January, entry was forced to a house in Rathmore Road. A number of rooms were ransacked and a sum of cash was stolen.

The old adage “If it seems too good to be true, it usually is” is something that local police are advising people to remember.
The warning follows an incident which occurred in Cornmarket on Saturday, 30 January.
A male approached a member of the public offering an iphone 6 and Samsung H6 for sale. A price was agreed and the offender walked to a silver Volkswagen Golf, after receiving payment, and appeared to put the goods into a bag. The bag was handed to the buyer and the car drove off before the buyer realised that the bag contained two soft drink bottles and nothing else.
Constable Kelly said: “This individual was fooled into thinking they were getting a bargain when, in reality they were being ripped off.
"I would advise anyone who is offered goods for sale in circumstances like this to walk away. Only purchase high value goods from a recognised retailer who can provide receipts and proof of purchase. Also, if you observe anyone offering goods for sale in this way please contact police immediately."

Police in Crossmaglen are appealing for information following a theft from the Community Centre.
Around 11.10am on Thursday, 4 February, two youths (male and female) entered Crossmaglen Community Centre and accessed a first floor office. A sum of cash was taken from a purse. The male was wearing a County Monaghan GAA jersey and the female wore her hair in a ponytail.

Police in Newry are appealing for information following an assault on a man at Beleeks.
Around 8.30am on Tuesday, 26 January, three males assaulted a 52 year old man on farmland at Fort Road, Belleeks. One of the males had a firearm in his possession and all three were wearing boiler suits. The man sustained facial injuries which required medical treatment.
