BOBBY REA INTERNATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY - DUNDONALD

Mark Malone competed in the Bobby Rea International Cross Country on Saturday afternoon. An event of which competitors were faced with some of the most challenging and demanding conditions experienced at a NI Cross Country event.
With a flooded course, heavy rain, a bitter cold wind and extremely muddy ground conditions, Mark took it in his stride and completed the difficult course. An event of which even the brave spectators struggled to remain upright and mud free!
Mark finished in thirty third place out of a field of 218 competitors in a time 35:03. A fantastic result.
Newry 1’s vs Portadown 1’s postponed due to frozen pitch.
Bangor 3’s 2-5 Newry 2’s
Newry travelled to Bangor on Saturday to try and keep their 100% record I the league.
Newry started well and should have taken the lead after winning a penalty corner in the opening minute however the home keeper kept out Hogg's well struck effort.
It was all Newry in the opened quarter with chances falling to McCafferty and Hogg. Bangor took a surprise lead when a breakaway left the Bangor forward free to tap in at the back post past a stranded Andy Mark's.

This spurred Newry on and were soon level with a trademark David Hogg strike to bring the sides level, it was Hogg who put Newry into the lead with a crisp strike from the right hand side of the circle leaving the keeper with no chance.
Bangor got themselves back into the game scoring just after half time again poor marking leaving a man free at the back post.
Newry pushed for the win and were soon ahead when Simon McCafferty slotted home a clever penalty corner variation following a cut back from Josh Porter.
McCafferty got his second when he turned nearly in the circle and fired into the roof of the Bangor net giving the home keeper no chance.
McCafferty still had time to complete his hat trick when he found himself one on one with the Bangor keeper he slipped the ball into the bottom corner to ensure that Newry left with all 3 points and their unbeaten start to the season remains in tact.
Team: A. Mark's, J. Lawson, E. Graham, A. Foster, J. Boyd, S. Blakley, R. Jordan, J. Porter, S.Graham, S. McCafferty, D. Hogg, C. Henning, J. Niblock, C. Large.
SUN SHINES ON G819
Slieve Gullion Forest Park was bask in winter sunshine for our clubs 2nd annual G819 8 Mile /8K Run & 8K Walk which saw large crowds gather for this growing event that saw clubs from near and far.
The club was proud to play host and share the beautiful surroundings of Slieve Gullion that we call our running home and it was great to hear the great feedback not just on the venue but the event as a whole.
All the hard work was well worth it and the club can be proud of an outstanding event that was only possible because of our hard working members and our main sponsors Mulkerns Eurospar and all our sponsors support

who once again not only supported the event but the fight for alfie whom our event is donating proceeds to. This year was also a special year for our club as we celebrated our 5th Birthday that saw our founding member Dermot Winters with our club sponsor from the beginning Graeme Finegan of .Grounded Espresso Bars Newry cut a cake to mark the big day.
The celebrations did not stop there as everyone taking part enjoyed the winter sun and would have taken in the beautiful morning to savour the amazing scenery of Slieve Gullion Forest on show . The event also saw some amazing running as well as the walkers on the day and everyone took a well earned break at the finish and enjoyed the refreshments that we thank everyone for their help, with the dust just settling on the event we will thank everyone for their help as there is so many to thank and would like to do this in a proper way as not to leave anyone out.
The club would really like to thank the strong turn out on the day from everyone and we look forward to seeing you all in 2020 for the G820 ,the event this year was not a chip timing event . Newry 2’s 6-1 Mossley 4’s
Newry 2’s have started this season in blistering form racking up 14 goals in their last two games. The home side carried this form into the game and were quickly one up with David Hogg scoring early in the first quarter. Mossley were struggling to cope with Newry’s counter attacks and it was soon two with Simon McCafferty scoring after good build up play from Andrews and Hogg. Mossley created a few chances but Newry keeper Andrew Marks did well when called into action. Josh Porter got Newry’s third in the first quarter and it was all looking rather easy.

Stephen Graham got a quick fire brace as the striker notched up his first goals of the season in the third quarter and David Andrews after working tirelessly midfield was reward with a goal soon after to make it six. Mossley did manage to get one back in the fourth quarter but it was only a consolation goal. Unfortunately the visitors frustration boiled over near the end as they received a red card for unsavoury incident as a Mossley player lashed out at Newry playmaker David Hogg.
Team: A.Marks, E. Graham, M. McCullough, G. Moffett, J. Boyd, D. Andrews, J. Porter, A. Foster, S. McCafferty, D. Hogg, J. Niblock, S. Graham, J. Whiteside, J. Lawson, L. Buchanan
Newry 1’s 3-1 North Down 1’s
Newry hosted North Down in their second league game of the season on Saturday and notched up their second win with a hard fought 3-1 victory.
Newry started brightly and were pressing North Down high up the pitch and were able to win the ball back on a number of occasions and force chance but were unable to get on the score board. It was North who struck first blood as they went ahead near the end of the first quarter against the run of play. Colin McKnight got Newry back on level terms when he burst into the circle and fired home a brilliant reverse stick shot into the bottom corner. The visitors could have went back into the lead were it not for the post and Sam Megaw who coolly took the ball off the line just before the break.
In the third quarter the home side were getting more joy on the attack and John Taylor got their second with a low drag flick from a short corner. He could have had his second just a matter of minutes later when he won the ball high up the pitch and drove into the second, however his shot went narrowly wide. He did however get his second in the fourth quarter again from another short corner to give Newry a two goal cushion. Taylor was again in the middle of it with five minutes left as he was first to react to a cross from the right, but again his shot just went wide. North pushed forward and did force a number of short corners but Newry held out to come away with the 3-1 victory.
Team: J Porter, D. England, S. Megaw, J. Greer, C. Henning, J. Taylor, A. Baird, N. McKnight, C. McKnight, K. Fletcher, M. Russell, K. McWilliams, N. Davenport, R. Irwin, C. Large, P. McNiece
