Police in Newry are appealing for information following a handbag theft from a 68 year old woman.
Constable Tom Nugent said: “Around 8.20pm on Thursday, 16 April a 68 year old female was walking from the car park towards Daisy Hill Hospital when a male approached her from behind, grabbed her handbag and ran off. The male is described as being in his later teens to early 20s, of slim build and was wearing a grey hoody which covered his face and head. He ran off towards the Carnagat area.
“We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident or has information which may assist our investigation. We can be contacted in Newry on 101, quoting ref: 1085 160415.”

Police in Newry, Mourne and Down District have compiled a graph highlighting their activity in a typical week to help give all of us a snap-shot of what happens on a day by day basis.
Policing is a varied and demanding role which needs a wide range of skills including investigative, communication and organisational skills.
To help increase understanding and awareness of the various demands and challenges faced by police we have created a list of key facts for Newry, Mourne and Down.

It’s not just the obvious things like the burglaries and pub fights, people turn to the police for a wide range of reasons . Over the recent bank holiday weekend, as well as the routine, Social Services asked for our help, we attended a sudden death, found 4 missing people and prevented a person taking their own life.

Police in Newry are appealing for information after a shed was broken into in Carnagat Park.
Constable Mark Jennings explained: “Sometime between Thursday, 16 April and Saturday, 18 April, a shed in Carnagat Park was entered. Nothing was taken.

Police in Newry are appealing for information following an incident of criminal damage.
Constable Garry Young said: “Sometime between 9pm on Saturday, 2 May and 2pm on Sunday, 3 May, two tyres of a Vauxhall Meriva, parked in James Connolly Park, were slashed.

Police in Newry are appealing for information following the report of an assault on North Street in Newry.
Constable Garry Young said: “Sometime between 10.30pm and 10.45pm on Sunday, 3 May, it was reported that a 21 year old man was assaulted outside licensed premises on North Street. The man sustained head and facial injuries.

Two Twenty Three year old women have been arrested by PSNI in Newry last night on suspicion of possession of class A, B and C controlled drugs and possession of class A, B and C controlled drugs with intent to supply following the seizure of drugs in the Newry area.
At approximately 6.15pm, police carried out a planned search of a house in the Richmond Court area of the city. A quantity of cash and drugs in tablet, liquid, powder and resin form were seized and the two women were arrested.
Chief Inspector Davy Beck said: "At this early stage, the intitial estimated value of the seized drugs is thought to be about £10,000. Local police are working hard to keep people safe in the area and this operation shows that where we suspect criminality is taking place, we will act proactively and decisively.
"I would appeal to anyone who has any information on drug misuse in the area to contact Ardmore Police Station on the non emergency number 101. Following an assault on Monaghan Street in the early hours of Monday morning Police in Newry are appealing for information from anyone who was in the vicinity.
Constable Philip Kelly said: “Around 2am on Monday, 8 June, a 25 year old male was involved in a fight. He sustained an injury to his head.
“We are keen to speak to a male who was in the area around this time wearing a purple hoody or anyone who witnessed this incident. We can be contacted in Newry on 101, quoting ref: 81 080615.”

Following a recent post on an anonymous sharing app which invited people to join Newry Snapchat Nude Community Police in Newry are warning the public not to share intimate or revealing pics on social media sites.
Constable Kenny Gracey said: "We cannot stress strongly enough how dangerous it is to share personal or intimate images on social media. Once an image is released into the cyber world it is extremely difficult to retrieve it.
"If you would not show a picture to a stranger in the street, do not post it on social media.
"Some guidelines you can follow to stay safe online are:
"Don’t share personal information or images with people who you don’t know.
" Don’t accept friend requests with someone you don’t know - everyone online may not be who they say they are.
" Set privacy settings on all devices so that only people you know can view your account.
" Don’t post anything online that you are not happy to be shared, particularly nude or nearly nude images or videos. It may seem like a bit of fun with friends at the time but there is always a chance those images could be shared or get into the wrong hands and could lead to harmful situations such as stalking, abuse or blackmail.
"If someone has made you feel uncomfortable or you have had disturbing interaction online, tell police or a trusted adult. You can ring the police on 101 or for help and advice ring Childline on 0800 1111 or Lifeline on 0808 808 8000.
"The internet can be a great place but it is important to remember there are people out there who may wish to abuse, exploit, intimidate or bully you online – if this happens to you, tell someone immediately.
"Remember that if things do go wrong online, there are people who can help.
" If you receive any inappropriate images or links, it is important that you do not forward it to anyone else. Contact police or tell a trusted adult immediately. By doing this you could help prevent further such incidents."

A large amount of crystal has been stolen from a property in Shandon Park and the PSNI are appealing for information.
Constable Philip Kelly said: “Sometime between 10pm on Thursday, 18 June and 10am on Friday, 19 June, entry was gained to the garage of a house in Shandon Park. A large amount of crystal was taken.
“We would like to hear from anyone who noticed any activity around the area during this time or has information in relation to the whereabouts of the stolen items.
