A tracker device on a tractor, taken from a yard in the Carryduff area of Lisburn earlier in July led to it's recovery a few hours later in the Newry area.
The tractor had been taken sometime between 9pm on July 18th and the following morning (19th July) from the Ballynahinch Road area. The vehicle, which had been fitted with a TRACKER device, was reported stolen at around 7am on July 19th and was located in the Newry area a short time later.
Chief Inspector Lorraine Dobson said, “We know that increased vigilance and security are key elements in denying criminals an opportunity of stealing machinery or equipment. Criminals are looking to exploit soft targets and the use of TRACKER has been very successful in deterring and detecting them. Adding these devices means that equipment is easily identifiable, and recoverable if stolen."

Two cars have been damaged by fire in Forkhill during the early hours of Friday 11 August.
It appears that flammable liquid had been poured over a Vauxhall Corsa parked in Park Urney and set on fire. A second car that was parked close also caught fire after the first car rolled into it. Both cars sustained extensive damage as a result.
A transit van parked in the area was also broken into and a number of tools stolen.
Appealing for information PSNI, Detective Sergeant Peter Stewart said: “I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or anyone who has information which may assist police enquiries, to contact Detectives at Ardmore on 101, quoting reference 127 of 11/08/17. Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Two girls, one of them with learning disabilities were assaulted and harrased by a gang of boys outside a Newry shopping centre earlier this week.
The girs were followed around the car park of The Quays in Newry on Monday 14 August by the gang of eleven teenagers, who called them names and threw bleach in one of the girls faces as well as reportedly videoing the incident.
Police in Newry are appealing for information following the assault on Monday.
Sergeant Gibson said "Police received reports that between 9:00 & 9:30pm in the area of Quays Shopping centre car park towards the Drumalane side, two girls were assaulted by a group of 11 males who threw a bottle of bleach at them.
I would ask that anyone with information contact police at Ardmore on 101 quoting ref 1269 14/8/17, or if you wish to remain anonymous Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
A mother of one of the girls praised the security staff at The Quays for their help during the distressing incident adding that "these bullys need to stop"

Detectives are appealing for information following the report of a burglary at a house in the Mountain View area of Killeavy, Newry on Friday, 25 August.
Sometime between 2.30pm and 4.00pm the property was entered and two men’s gold watches and a number of medals were stolen.
Detective Constable McAteer would appeal to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity or vehicles in the area between 2.30pm and 4.00pm on Friday, 25 August to contact Police at Newry on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 881 25/08/17. Detectives are appealing for witnesses following a series of burglaries.
Sometime overnight Wednesday night 20 September entry was forced to licensed premises on the Hilltown Road in Kilcoo. It is not believed that anything was stolen during the incident.
Also on the same night between 9pm and 10.45pm entry was forced to a shop on the Concession Road in Crossmaglen. An electric hob was stolen as a result.
Detective Sergeant Johnston said: “We are appealing for anyone who witnessed any of the incidents or anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation to contact detectives in Downpatrick on 101. Information can also be passed anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
“Be assured we robustly pursue those who wish to target local householders and businesses and will continue to do so. We would also ask the public to continue to report any suspicious activity immediately with as much information as possible.
“Burglaries are a violation of the things people hold most dear – the possessions they’ve worked hard to buy and to enjoy as well as the items of sentimental value they cherish. I would appeal to property owners not to take security for granted. When you leave the property, make sure all the doors and windows are locked and secure and always keep your keys safe. Always keep your doors and windows locked and ensure you can identify callers before you open the door.
“We would also asked the business community to ensure they have appropriate security measures in place. There are a range of simple and effective measures worth taking to ensure your business stays crime-free.
“Reduce the amount of cash you have in your tills regularly and make sure you transfer it to a safe - preferably in an occupied office. Have your money taken to a bank frequently by a recognised Cash in Transit (CIT) company. This ensures your money has the safest possible journey to your bank, reducing the risk of it being stolen.
“You should also consider a “drop” safe. This is where you can keep money that is due to be lodged at a bank until a CIT company comes to collect it. Its access can be limited to just two people, including the CIT company staff. Once the money has been dropped into the safe, only authorised individuals can get access to it. The safe should be located in a secure room.
“Being a good neighbour is one of the best deterrents, as criminals and thieves can't operate if they know their every move is being watched. As it only takes a few minutes to commit a burglary, the importance of promptly reporting of all suspicious activity to the police should be obvious.
“I would also ask anyone who notices suspicious activity in their neighbourhood to call us immediately as this could prevent someone from becoming a victim of crime.”

A motorcyclist in his 40's has died following a road traffic collision on the Tandragee Road in Newry last night, 30 September.
The collision involving the motorcycle and another vehicle occurred close to the junction of Appletree Hill and was reported to police shortly after 7pm.
A female pillion passenger was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
PSNI Inspector Leslie Badger is appealing for anyone who was travelling on the Tandragee Road and who witnessed the collision to contact local officers in Newry or the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting reference number 1277 of 30/09/17.

Two men have been stabbed during an incident in Beleeks at the weekend. Injuries were not believed to be life threatening.
Police have arrested and charged a 48 year old man in connection with the incident. The man has been charged with attempted murder, grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence. He is expected to appear before Newry Magistrates Court on Wednesday 01 November.
Detective Constable David Skillen said: “Police were called to a bar on Main Street shortly after midnight [Saturday night] following reports that two males had been stabbed. Upon arrival officers found that one man had sustained a stab wound to the neck and another had been stabbed in the hand.
The males, both of whom are 43 years old, were given first aid by police at the scene before being transferred to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening at this time.

A 29 year old man has been arrested in the Dorans Hill area of Newry on suspicion of a number of drugs related offences.
Detectives from Criminal Investigation Branch based at Mahon Road in Portadown working with local police in Newry were involved in the case.
Detective Inspector Keith Gawley said: “ The man was stopped by a police patrol as he drove his car in the Dorans Hill area of Newry at around 9pm on Friday evening. A search of the man and his car was then carried out and a quantity of suspected class A drugs and cash was recovered. Further follow up searches were carried out at other locations in the Newry area. In total, around £30k of suspected cocaine has been recovered as well as a substantial amount of cash. The man has been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including possession of a class A controlled drug with intent to supply and possessing criminal property. He remains in custody this morning assisting officers with their enquiries.”

Following a shooting in Newry last night where a man in his 50's was shot in the hip, A car was also found burnt out close to St Patrick's Primary School. The PSNI are apealing for information from anyone who witnessed the incident.
The shooting took place in the Drumgullion area just off the Armagh Road in the city.
Detective Sergeant James Johnston said “Shortly after 8.15 pm police received a report that a man in his 50s had been shot in the hip whilst answering his front door. The man was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening at this time. A Grey Peugeot 206 was reported on fire a short distance away in Violet Hill Avenue, just after the shooting occurred. Police are investigating if the vehicle is linked to the incident.
“This was a callous and brazen attack in which the injured party could easily have lost their life and a motive for it remains unclear at present. I would appeal that anyone with information or who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the Drumgullion area contact Detectives at Ardmore on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1331 of 24/10/17. Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information anonymously they can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
