St John Bosco Seniors
The senior team got back to winning ways on Friday night when they made the long trip to Darragh Cross. Playing with the aid of a breeze in the first half Bosco got on the score sheet from the throw in through Darragh Murphy. Dominating possession at midfield Bosco launched attack after attack but wayward shooting kept the scores close with the Saintfield men scoring on the counter. But when Gavin Moan was fouled heading for goal he got up and placed the penalty in the corner of the net. That score proved to be the difference at the short whistle, Bosco 1.6. Darragh Cross 0.6. Playing into the breeze in the second half, the lead looked slender enough but from the throw in the lads worked exceptionally hard to deny their opponents possession. Again, winning a lot of ball around the middle the forward line made better use of the scoring opportunities while the back line never looked like leaking the goal Darragh Cross needed to get back into the game. The Bosco men ran out winners by 1.13 to 0.11.
Bosco lined out L McAlinden, F Lavery, S Byrne, A Rooney, A Beattie, R Lynch, P Magill, C Gallagher, D Byrne, G Moan, P McKeown, D Murphy, D Morgan, K Falloon, T McKeown. Subs Used R McDonald, K Lynch
Table toppers and championship opponents Tullylish are in Jack Mackin Park next Friday 2nd August in a vital game. A big turn out of support would be very welcome!

St John Bosco U10s
Wednesday 24th St John Bosco vs Glenn venue St Patrick’s P.S.
Glenn U10s travelled to St Patrick’s midweek for a return fixture with a large squad of players and a sizeable contingent of supporters. Both teams fielded Gaels and Ógs teams who played two periods of 15 minutes ‘across the park’ and then the match format went to 15 a side and played full length.
The Gaels match was played under a hybrid of Go Games and only scoring by hand passing rules and served up a very fast flowing game which the tall Glenn midfield controlled from early on until the Bosco players got to grips with the game. Both teams put their hearts into the game and played some excellent football with great examples of close passing and ball control.
The Ógs match played under Go games rules only was another fast flowing game with Dessie McKevitt and Aaron Downey pulling the strings from midfield and controlling the game. Josh Hanna in nets for Bosco had a great game and kept a clean sheet with Glenn only registering points.
Sunday 28th St John Bosco vs Drumgath venue St Patrick’s P.S.
With a U12 game scheduled for Drumgath this match was switched to St Patrick’s.
With several players off on holidays the Bosco still were able to field 20 players and opted to mix the Gaels and Ógs to try out players in new positions, so it was that St John Bosco Ulster and Munster U10 teams faced Drumgath Leinster and Connaught teams.
Normally full backs Aidan O’Hare and Calum Grey were put into midfield and player their socks off in all their games. The Ulster U10s with a full forward line of Shea Malone, Dessie McKevitt and Ciaran McAlinden came out on top in their game. Score of the game was a Shea Malone goal which was fisted into the net when he got onto a long ball sent into the box from Pól Óg McCormack.
In the St John Bosco Munster team Jamie Cinnamond controlled the middle of the park and scored several long range points which helped the Bosco team to run out eventual winners.
In the third game played full length of the pitch Josh Hanna again played very well in nets and Nathan Gribben (moved to half forward from his usual position in half back) had a solid game and got onto the score sheet with a brace of points from the left wing.

On a perfect evening for football Tir Na Og were the visitors for the Championship. With a few players missing due to holidays its was a test of the squad. After Tir Na Og won the toss they played with the slight breeze and were the first to register the first point of the game. Tir Na Og physically bigger around the middle of the field controlled the game for the first five minutes until a short kick-out from David Hankin worked the length of the pitch to level the scores. It wasn't until the tenth minute that the boys started to settle down and started to keep possession with the two midfielders Mark McAteer and Conor Loye starting to dominate with strong surging runs time and again to set up some fine points from Phelim Finnegan, Charlie Magill and Jordan King. Twenty minutes into the game the boys started going for goals and not taking their points with three one on ones with the keeper and nothing to show it took an opportunist finish from Charlie Magill to register the first goal. With the boys on top they really played some nice football with fine points coming from Conor Loye and Ryan Courtney before Jordan King struck with another goal after some great interlinking play from Decky Loye and Ryan Magill. At halftime the score stood 2-9 0-3.
The halftime team-talk was about starting the second half strongly as Tir Na Og were going to come out all guns blazing. With their team talk Tir Na Og came out and started to play long direct ball to their full forward and this was to be the game-plan for the rest of the second half. Not to concede cheap goals was the instructions to the defenders and some fantastic defending from Deaglan Jennings and Jamie Fields kept the away side from raising the green flag. The best point of the game came from an ever improving Mickey McGory who after turning the ball over in the tackle gave a one two with Decky Loye to point from 30mts out. Connor Brennan and Ryan McSherry came off the bench to freshen things up and had the desired effect with another few points from Niall Canning,Ryan Magill an to finish the night strongly a goal for Decky Loye. A great result at the final whistle 3-16 0-6. Next round of the Championship sees us taking on the winners of Clan Na Gael or St Pauls away from home but for now its back to the All County League.

Newry and Mourne Councillor Pat Mc Ginn was just one of the many volunteers and Games Ambassadors who helped the World Police and Fire games run smoothly at Rostrevor.
Cllr McGinn said that he like many hundreds of others involved in assisting the recent 2013 World Police and Fire Games had enjoyed the occasion and he was sure that a lasting legacy would come from the Games which had athletes and participants from all over the world.
The Sinn Féin elected representative was a “Games Ambassador” and over the weekend joined many others who give their time freely to help assist in the rolling out of the Mountain Bike Competitions in Rostrevor. “There certainly was a great spirit amongst us all” said the Councillor who had gone through the process of being selected as a Games Ambassador some months back. “
Pat added " I was proud to be involved in such a practical way of bringing the event here and to ensuring that all visitors and locals enjoyed as best they could the wonderful occasion”
He concluded “I have no doubt there will be a lasting legacy from these games. Newry and Mourne, has shown once again that we are able hosts and have a great pride in what we do”.

Madden v Corrinshego
4 - 14 V 1 – 13
An under 14 clash versus Madden does not feature much in Corrinshego's calendar, so our coaches were looking forward to this game, but unfortunately it seemed in the first half at least that our players were not. Unlike the team this season they seemed a little lethargic, and it showed, especially on the goals front, for Madden took their opportunities in front of goal, whereas our forwards did not. The lack of options, with some players missing and injured didn't help, but still the scoreline only read 2-4 to 0-7 at half time to madden, but this didn't tell the whole story, as madden kicked wide after wide and gave our boys every opportunity to stay in the game up until half time. Again it was vice captain Adam Loughran who kept the team in the hunt with 4 points before the break, with Kyle Mooney and Brendan McLoughlin also getting on the scoresheet.
The Corrinshego boys gave a far better account of themselves at the beginning of the second half, with wing forward Jonjo Cranney floating over from a tight angle and Adam Loughran slipping a goal past the Madden keeper. In fact the game was finely poised at this stage when Corrinshego were awarded a penalty, which would have put them in front, but it was squandered and from the resulting kick out madden went up the field and when two defenders were drawn to one man, the madden forward was free to bulge the back of the visitor's net. Heads went own too quickly and we soon conceded another, before midfielder Conor Jennings sent over the final Corrinshego point. A steep learning curve for our young lads this year, which will help them next season. Unlucky boys.

Minors 1-13 Sarsfields 0-5
With the minors missing five players due to holidays and injuries and only one sub on the bench this game could be seen as a potential slip up for the boys.
After last weeks good Championship win it was important to get off to a quick start. Full back Deaglen Jennings was the first player to registered a score working the ball the length of the pitch to fist over the bar. Fifteen minutes into the game with the score at 03-01 with good approach work from Conor Loye putting in Sean Thomson who crashed the ball against the crossbar with Decky Loye pouncing on the rebound, dummying the goalkeeper to put a bit of breathing space between the two teams.
Another two points one from Sean Thompson who after being a bit match rusty being in Australia for the last four weeks left the halftime score 1-4 0-2. On the restart it was the boys who kicked on with a couple of frees from Phelim Finnegan to leave them in control of the game. The discipline not to give away silly frees was excellent with Lee Courtney having a great game a wing half back winning plenty of ball.
Another brace of points from Charlie Magill put the game beyond doubt. A man of the match performance for Conor Loye with some great midfield play and setting up scores time and again.

Thomas Davis Corrinshego 1-12 St. Patrick’s Dromintee 1-4
Friday the 26th July will live long in the memory of all Gaels connected to Thomas Davis, as the Newry based club annexed the All-County Junior B league and in doing so claimed their first title at senior level since 1982.
With expectations high in the club a good crowd had gathered in expectation of honours. After a very nervous start it was the men in blue and white who started the more promising. On 3 minutes Karl Kimmins pulled off a good save, only to see Dromintee take the lead from a 45m moments later. The game ebbed and flowed with both Ryan Mc Williams and David Lenaghan catching good ball and the ever reliable James Dinsmore sweeping up any loose ball. However the ball into the forwards was either poor or the Dromintee defence gathered it up. On 9mins Shane McArdle equalised with a point after a strong penetrating run. On 13mins a Danny Cinnamond point pushed Thomas Davis in front. To their credit the Dromintee side didn’t give up and probably should have bagged at least one goal at this stage of the game. Dromintee equalised and on 19mins their expected goal came to leave the score 1-2 to 0-2 in favour of the St. Patrick’s side. Thomas Davis pushed on and on 21mins Ryan O’Reilly reduced the margin with a fine point after being set up by Shane McArdle. On 23 mins Ryan McWilliams was hauled down when brusting through from midfield, unfortunately the resulting free went narrowly wide from the boot of Ryan O’Reilly. However a strong run from Cathal Trainor and interchange play with David Murphy saw C. Trainor reduce the gap to a solitary point. Dromintee added another point before David Murphy responded with a point for the Newry side a minute before half time, to leave the score 1-3 to 0-5 in favour of the Dromintee men at the break.
On the resumption it was Dromintee who scored the opening point , however this was to be their last score of the game and with the Bradshaw brothers, Conor Loye and John Mc Ilroy commanding a stong presence in the defence. On 34mins Ryan O’Reilly scored from a free after Danny Cinnamond was fouled. On 37 mins Liam Quinn got on the scoresheet after being fed a good pass by S. McArdle.
Two minutes Corrinshego found the back of the net after good interchangeable play between S.McArdle and C. Trainor led to Danny Cinnamond firing the ball home, to leave the score 1-7 to 1-4 in favour of the Newry men. On 41mins David Lenaghan added to the total and two minutes later Liam Quinn pointed from a free. Corrinshego were completely on top in all sectors and D. Cinnamond pointed from a free to make it 1-10 to 1-4. As the game reached a conclusion Gerry O’Reilly emptied the bench, Davy Murphy and Liam Quinn pointed to leave it 1-12 to 1-4.On 61minutes referee Joe Murtagh blew his whistle and 31 years of pain, anguish, misery and torture was over as Thomas Davis Corrinshego were now Armagh All-Couny Junior B League winners.
This was a great achievement for Thomas Davis and all those connected to the club. Players, club members and supporters celebrated long into the night back at the ranch!

St John Bosco Seniors
Naomh Eoin Bosco 1-11 Tullylish 1-16
Two 10 minute spells at the start and end of this game were the undoing of the seniors in their top of the table clash with league leaders Tullylish on Friday night. After 10 minutes the boys were 1-3 to no score down and on the back foot. Despite this poor start the team showed great spirit and commitment to get the game back to level with 10 or 12 minutes left. However the team couldn't keep this level of play going and ran out losing by 5 points.
All attention now switches to the championship and our first game takes place next Friday night 9th August at 6.30 in Castlewellan against Kilclief and all support is welcome.....please note the early start time for this game

St John Bosco U10s
Sunday 4th August St John Bosco vs Rostrevor venue St Colman’s Gollege 3G pitch
Rostrevor were the visitors this week and the game was to be played on the new grass pitch in St Colman’s however the grass hasn’t been cut for a couple of weeks and both teams were scared of losing their smaller players in the jungle.
With no one on the 3G the match was soon switched to this venue and both teams relished the opportunity of playing their first game on a full length pitch and especially on a 3G surface.
Playing 18 a side the pitch was still massive but these young stars ran their hearts out and covered a lot of ground in the 60 minutes of football. The match flowed end to end with Bosco midfield of Pól Óg McCormack, Ronan Cinnamond and James Boyle playing some fantastic football and controlling the middle third of the pitch. Danial Preece suffered a bad stud injury to his leg but recovered quickly and mastered the half forward line. Rory McAleavy at half back made several fine runs into the Rostrevor back line delivering excellent paases and was extremely unlucky not to get on the score sheet.
Next up for the U10’s is a home fixture in St Patrick’s P.S on Wednesday evening against Attical, throw in at 7:00 p.m.

Relay Runners were back at St Colman's All Weather Track in Newry last night, a year to the day the Keep On Running Team not just broke but demolished the Guinness World Record for the Greatest Distance run by a Relay Team. The incredible distance of 3,504.28 Miles still stands.
This time it was just for fun though and the imaginatively billed 356days L8R saw dozens of runners six lanes at a time take to the track once again.
Seasoned runners took part along with well known faces including Conor Murphy MP and Eddie Curtis and Noel Pepper from Newry and Mourne Council as well as Marathon legend Willie McCracken.
A display cabinet was unveiled on the night at the St Colman's Track Pavilion with assorted memorabilia from the successful bid of a year ago.

The Camlough Lake Management Committee have released a statement following a recent incident involving damage to boats of rowers from Queens University.
A Spokesperson stated "The Camlough Lake Management committee shares the anger and disappointment of the wider Camlough Community at the recent incident on the Lake where rowing boats belonging to a Lake user Group, Queens University were cowardly and maliciously damaged."
The Camlough Lake Management Committee originally formed almost 25 years ago initially by the Camlough Lake Conservation Society, brought together those local people and user Groups, who wished to work in partnership to ensure the protection, sustainability and managed development of the lake and its surrounds. Working in partnership with Newry and Mourne District Council it now manages all activities on and around the lake.
Many generations of families and individuals have over the years given up their time freely for all activities happening both on the lake and in the village of Camlocha. Events such as Feile Camlocha, the Crooked Lake Triathlon, the Camlough Lake Water Festival and the World record fresh water relay swim (2009) that attracted visitors and media attention from around the world.
Mayor of Newry & Mourne District Council, Councillor Michael Ruane said “The council have worked closely with users group at Camlough Lake to ensure this fantastic resource we have can be enjoyed by a wide range of groups. The camlough lake sub committee in co-ordinating the users group endeavors to ensure all with an interest in using the lake can be accommodated”.
Concluding the Committee added "The recent cowardly incident which involved criminal damage to the Rowing Boats of Queens University as well as allegations of verbal abuse and harassment did not come from the people of Camlough who like all responsible others wish to see the culprits involved face the full rigors of the law. We genuinely wish Queens University Rowing Club every success in their future endeavors and we remain committed to ensuring that all those individuals and groups who both live in or visit our area and facilities feel welcome, safe and enjoy their time here."

Armagh Junior Championship @ Abbey Park
Corrinshego 0-9 Collegeland 1-14
On Saturday last Corrinshego bowed out in the first hurdle of the Co. Junior Championship when losing to a more experienced and well drilled sidewho have played at a higher level all year.
Corrinshego started the brighter of the two teams and actually took the lead on 2minutes when Paul Heatley opened the account with a nice point. This was doubled a minute later when Danny Cinnamond scored a point from a free when Shane McArdle was fouled. However this was a false dawn as Collegeland dominated midfield and went on to score 1-6 without reply in the next 12 minutes. On 21 minutes John Mc Ilroy was fouled when he went on a penetrating run throughout the heart of the Collegeland defence. D. Cinnamond pointed the resultant free. On 25 minutes Cathal Trainor reduced the gap to 1-6 to 0-4 in favour of the O’ Rahilly’s men. Collegeland kept pressing and scored the final two points of the first half to leave the score at half-time , 1-8 to 0-4 in favour of Collegeland.
To their credit Corrinshego never gave up and on the restart, Ryan O’Reilly pointed a free after Liam Quinn was hauled down on the 21m line and Ryan McWilliams pointed a long range point on 33mins to reduce the gap to 1-8 to 0-6. However Collegeland responded by adding three points in a row. Gerry O’Reilly introduced himself to try and combat against the midfield dominance of Collegeland. On 41 mins David Lenaghan scored a good point and moments later Liam Quinn pointed a free after Paul Heatley was fouled. Collegeland responded again with another three points in a row. The final score of the game was a point by Danny Cinnamond to leave the final score 1-14 to 0-9 in favour of the men in blue and white.
The season finishes with a home game aginst Clady this Friday evening. Although bowing out so early in the championship is disappointing, Collegeland are a more experienced outfit which played at ‘Intermediate level until recently. The initial goal of promotion was achieved with the culmination of annexing the Junior B league title. 2014 will bring a new set of goals , one of which may be an extended run in the Junior championship.

St John Bosco Seniors
Naomh Eoin Bosco 1-15 Kilclief 0-8
The seniors got off to a winning start in the group stages of the Intermediate championship in Castlewellan on Friday night against Kilclief. Leading 9-3 at half time, the boys took their foot off the pedal at the start of the second half and allowed the opposition to close to within 4 points. However they rediscovered their first half form to pull away again and ended the game winning by 10 points.
One sour note from the game on Friday night was a serious collar bone injury sustained by Kevin Faloon which will put him out for the rest of the season. We all wish Kevin a speedy recovery.
Next up is the second game of the group against Tullylish in Clonduff at 6.30 this Friday night 16th August and all support is welcome.
St John Bosco Ladies
Down Ladies Intermediate Championship Semi-Final
Bosco Ladies travelled the short distance to Mayobridge to face Clonduff in the 1/2 Final of the Down Ladies Intermediate Championship.
Bosco missing 6 regulars due to holiday commitments went into this game as slight underdogs giving that Clonduff had regrouped and had beaten Mayobridge the week prior by 10 points.
Before the match Bosco manager Mo Rooney informed his team that Semi-Finals can be the hardest and ugliest games to take part in as both teams wanted the goal of a Championship Final and his words were somewhat true in what was a hard hitting and at times ugly 1st half but it was the Bosco girls who played the football and continued to try and play football throughout a foul riddled 30 minutes and to make things worse Bosco,s D. McCourt and O. McLogan both got yellow carded before the break thus faced 10 minutes on the side line. It was in this 10 minute spell that the Bosco ladies showed their true worth and with the extra room on the pitch they outscored Clonduff buy 3 points to nil.
Half Time - Bosco 1-6 Clonduff 0-3
During the half time team talk Bosco Mentor Pat Fox reminded the girls to keep playing the football and keep moving the ball forward and this seemed to work as the Bosco added 3 points without reply in the opening minutes of the 2nd half.
To their credit Clonduff continued to pressure the Bosco girls and where rewarded with a goal on 50 minutes but this was to be their last score as the Bosco powered their way to victory with an unanswered 1-3.
On the final whistle it was clear form the ovation from both sets of supporters that both teams had just served up a battle.
On the day for the Bosco every player contributed to what was a nerve jangling and nail biting victory. This win puts the Bosco ladies into their 2nd County Final in 2 years where they will face Mayobridge who earlier toppled League leaders and Championship Favourites Rostrevor by 6 points.
After the match Maria Fox was delighted to be in another County Final and indeed praised the development of this young team. To win the Junior Championship last year was fantastic but to be in the Intermediate Championship Final in only their 3rd year back in senior football is a credit to the girls and indeed the management team.
Finally an exhausted and voiceless Mo Rooney heaped praise on his girls and thanked Maria and Pat for all their hard work. Mo continued that his team enjoyed the tag of being the "Silent Team" in the Bosco and that the girls just get on with their training and preparation for games in their own wee way and stated that while his team will go into the final as favourites he will in no way under estimate the talent and quality of footballers Mayobridge have in their team. Mo finished off by thanking the great Bosco support for all the noise and encouragement for them all season.
Final Score - Bosco 2-12 Clonduff 1-3
Bosco Team - D McCourt , T Quinn, E Rooney, S Carroll, H McKevitt, M Adebewinge, A Downey, N O,Gorman, O McLogan , O McAvoy, M Downey, H McKevitt, M Burke, E Walsh and L Carnegie. Subs M Lennon for H McKevitt S O,Hare for M Burke

St John Bosco U10s
St John Bosco vs Attical venue St Patrick’s P.S.
With 20 players turning out the Bosco mentors were able to field their usual two teams Gaels and Ógs for the two ‘cross field’ games before the 15 a side game played on the full field.
Once again the Cinnamond brothers Ronan and Jamie played excellent football in midfield and forward respectively and helped their team to hard fought wins in both their games. With Calim Gray missing the game as he was away on holidays Nathan Gribben was drafted into centre full back and had an excellent game cutting out several Attical goal attacks.
In the Ógs game Padraig McGoldrick, Ciaran McAlinden and Josh Hanna controlled the centre of the pitch feeding accurate passes into the full forward line of Cormac White and Shea Malone who got onto the scoreboard with excellent points.
Next up for the U10’s is the normal Wednesday evening training session in St Colman’s at 7:00 p.m. and a home game in St Patrick’s P.S. on Sunday 18th.
