Castlewellan golfer Paul Burns is calling upon fellow golfers to swing into action for Friends of the Cancer Centre by signing up for a charity golf day at Mayobridge Golf Club on Saturday 24 August 2013.
As an area known for its large catchment of golfers, Paul thought a golf day would be the perfect all round event for him to run as a fundraiser for the official charity of the regional centre of excellence in cancer care.
Paul has experienced a lot of interest since he first tabled the idea and has already gathered in some £1,400 of sponsorship and a number of prizes.
The charity golf competition will be open to either individuals or teams of four players (men, women or mixed). The 43-year-old joiner, Paul Burns, says; “I’m more than happy to sort out any individuals or pairs of players who wish to team up with others to make a four ball, just let me know. At only £25 per person it is an excellent value day of golf as it also includes a hot meal at the end of your day. To book a tee time you can call the golf club direct on 028 3085 0295, or for further information feel free to give me call on 077 3849 2466. As well as participants, I’d also love to hear from anyone who would like to donate a prize or provide sponsorship.
“We’ll also be rounding the day off with an evening at the King’s Inn, Castlewellan, where we’ll have a raffle, music and prize giving from 9pm. Participants are encouraged to bring their family and friends along to enjoy this evening, where there is free admission. The more the merrier as we hope the evening’s raffle will help raise even more funds for Friends of the Cancer Centre.”
About why he is running the event, he adds; “Like most people I’ve had a number of people close to me who have been affected by cancer. My father, Malachy, has just recently passed away from pancreatic cancer. I’ve seen first hand how caring and helpful the staff at the Cancer Centre’s Bridgewater Suite have been at helping my father and our wider family circle get through this journey. If it wasn't for them we wouldn't have had the extra nine months with him.”
Events & Community Fundraising Manager for Friends of the Cancer Centre, Claire McAuley, says; “I would urge everyone with an interest in golf to dust off your clubs and pick up the phone and call Paul to book your spot on the day. What better way to spend the August Bank Holiday weekend than with a social round of golf with your friends that also helps raise funds for a local charity into the bargain!
“Friends of the Cancer Centre makes a real and meaningful difference to the lives of thousands of cancer patients and their families across Northern Ireland by providing medical equipment, funding specialist medical posts and research and providing a diverse range of patient comforts and care. Our charity’s funding is always directed towards projects and services which are outside and in addition to the provision already made by the Health Service, responding to needs highlighted by the Cancer Centre’s expert medical staff.”
Craobh Rua Camlocha Seniors
Our seniors are through to the Armagh Junior hurling final after a tense and exciting game of hurling which ended Craobh Rua Camlocha 1.12 Middletown 0.13. The game which was played at The Athletic grounds Armagh, as the second of two semi-finals, was played partly under lights due to the late throw- in of the first game of the evening. That senior C’ship game ended with Cú Chulainns emerging as victors over Derrynoose.
In our own game with Middletown the stamina and will to win of the Craobh Rua players was tested to the limit and in the end we came through with flying colours.
Of note throughout the game for Craobh Rua were; R Lewis, F Bradley, E Robb, M Doran, M Bradley and P Cunningham all who scored from play and R Lundy in nets. . In hindsight the result of the game had probably been sealed in the first half with an excellent goal involving M Bradley, E Robb with a stylish finish to the Middletown net by young Joe O Connor. We now face stiff opposition in Seán Treacy’s Lurgan on the 1st September in the Armagh Junior Club Final.
Campa Samhraidh / Summer Camp
Craobh Rua teamed up with Méabh O ‘ Neills camogie club for our annual summer camp which proved an immense success with nearly seventy children taking part.
We would like to say a word of thanks to the club coaches, mentors and parents who all contributed to making the camp such an outstanding success.
Faoi / Under 14s
Our U14 team recorded a good win over local rivals Killeavey in the quarter final of the Armagh U14 C’ship. This Monday we face strong opposition in a Middletown team that we have already faced twice this year in the league. The results of those games were a win each thus making next Monday night’s C’ship semi-final all the more interesting.

St John Bosco Seniors
Naomh Eoin Bosco 0-10 Tullylish 1-14
The seniors lost the second game of the group stages of the championship on Friday night in Hilltown. An excellent first half performance, at the end of which they lead 7 points to 3, was followed by a very poor second half display and they eventually lost the game by 7 points.
As a result of this defeat the boys must beat Attical in the final game of the group to reach the quarter finals. This game is due to take place in Rostrevor on Friday 30th August at 6.45.
In the meantime the team return to league action, away to Drumgath next Friday night 23rd August at 7pm and all support is welcome.
St John Bosco U14’s
Bosco 4-05 Drumgath 5-18
Having won division three Bosco under 14 boys were moved up to the B Championship this year. As a result they travelled to Drumgath on Wednesday last for their first game. Playing at the higher level allied to the absence of any games for the previous six weeks was a cause for concern going into the game. And so it proved against a decent Drumgath side.
That said the boys in no way disgraced themselves and battled gamely to the end. Drumgath took an early lead with a goal and five points before Bosco settled. However Bosco fought their way back with goals from Bill Finnegan and Ryan Mc Aleavey and points from Ruairi Lavery and James Harkin. At the break it was Drumgath 1-10 to Bosco's 2-03.
A ten minute spell in the second half saw Drumgath pull away which left Bosco chasing the game.
Fitness and lack of matches started to tell even though the boys never let the heads drop. Ryan Mc Aleavey and Ruairi Lavery worked tirelessly throughout and did their best to set up numerous attacks. Howevewr it just wasn't our day. Still there is a chance for redemption on Monday night with a home game with Attical.
St John Bosco U12 Girls
U12 Girls record another impressive victory against Rostrevor Wednesday 7th August 2013
With players now returning from holidays the u12 girls continued their impressive league form with an excellent victory over a determined and skillful Rostrevor team.
The goals were scored by Chloe Quinn (with two), Sinead Quinn and Aine McCabe but perhaps some of the best scores were points contributed by Nicole Cunningham, Ciarrai Lavery, Traesa McKinley and Aoibheann Quinn. As always Eden Casey and Niamh Burns provided great defensive cover.
The girls now have a busy end to the season with a number of pieces of silverware up for grabs.
FINAL SCORE Rostrevor 2: 01 Bosco 4: 12
U12 Girls maintain their 100% home record against Clonduff Wednesday 14th August 2013
This game was always going to be very difficult and 10 minutes into the 2nd half the sides were level after a great goal from Clonduff. But the Bosco girls were not about to surrender their 100% home record. With the pressure on, Nicola Downey soled the ball from halfway and slotted the ball into the top corner. This proved to be the decisive score as within 5 minutes Bosco had stretched their lead to 8 points with points added from Chloe Quinn, Ciarrai Lavery and a goal from corner forward Sinead Quinn.
This result makes it a two horse race between Warrenpoint and Bosco for the league with Bosco in second but with two games in hand.
FINAL SCORE Bosco 3: 09 Clonduff 1: 07

Help Required
Plans are now well advanced for this year’s big event and the eight teams taking part are Bosco, Warrenpoint, Clan na Gael, Rostrevor, Carrickcruppin, Saval, Dromintee & Clonduff.
There are plenty of jobs to be done on the day from setting up the pitches to acting as umpires, referees, score keepers and general “runners”. We also need some people to help out with the catering in Whitegates. The tournament starts at 10.00am and should be completed by 2.30pm.
St John Bosco U10s
Sunday 18th August St John Bosco vs Rostrevor venue Petit Park Rostrevor
Again with solid numbers St John Bosco were able to field their usual two teams Gaels and Ógs for the now customary two ‘cross field’ 30 minute games before the big game of 30 minutes full field game.
In the Ógs game captain Rory McAleavy had a wonderful game with an excellent display of fielding and long passing. For the second week running the full forward line of Cormac White, Dessie McAleavy and Aaron Downey tormented their markers with plenty of off the ball running and excellent scores. Full forward for Rostrevor Bosco player Shea Malone (balancing the numbers) had a great game against his club members. In charge of defence Nathan Gribben marshalled his colleagues and ensured that Rostrevor attacks were thwarted.
St John Bosco and Rostrevor U10’s
For the Gsels Calim Gray, Aidan O’Hare and Josh Hanna were excellent in defence. In midfield Ronan Cinnamond was marking Pól Óg McCormack (who was playing for Rostrevor to balance the numbers) and these two had a terrific battle in the Gaels game and in the main game also. Goal of the game in the Gaels game resulted from a long range pass from James Boyle to Jamie Cinnamond who rose high into the air to fist the ball into the net.
The main game was an excellent display of underage football with a lot of long range passing and close scoring. With Bosco behind by 3 points at the end Padraig Caldwell caught the ball at the edge of the large rectangle and headed for goal only to be fouled just as he was about to shoot. The resultant penalty taken by Aaron Downey hit the post however the referee Adjudged that Rostrevor players had ‘broke the line’ and Aaron was told to take the penalty again which he duly slotted home at the second time of asking. The game ended in a draw which was a fair reflection on the game.

Thomas Davis Corrinshego GFC U-8’s v St. Michael’s Newtownhamilton
Wednesday 14th August 2013-08-15
On Wednesday evening the young footballers travelled to Newtown to take on their U-8 opponents. Played in a slight drizzle, the Thomas Davis footballers took on the men in blue and white. With Siobhan McKinley confident in goals and younger brother Martin gaining confidence with very game Corrinshego took the lead through Shea Gray with a fine goal. Shea finished with an impressive total of 2-1 with his point coming from a 21m free when he was fouled. Youny Caoimhe Mallon scored 4-1 while captain on the night Danny Shields battled throughout at midfield. Both Liam O’Brien and Michael Mallon performed well in defence and James Heatley was unfortunate with a few efforts on goals. Conal Havern won some great tussels in the half-forwards and is improving with each game and Shea Mallon and Ryan Byrne ran for every ball. Final score : Corrinshego 6-3 Newtown 4-9

The girls travelled to league and championship winners sarsfields on Sunday for the final league game of the season. Sarsfields settled straight away and reeled off several scores without reply which seemed to waken the corrinshego girls who replied with a well taken goal by dearbhla kearns. The momentum changed with all the attacking being done by the corrinshego girls and nicole McCann added to the tally with a goal and 3points. Sarsfields then gathered themselves and scored a goal. The Thomas Davis girls kept attacking and and finished the half 1point to the good. The second half begun much as the first with sarsfields on top. This time the home team dominated for longer. Leah mc Laughlin added a fine score followed by Danielle mcchlorey but sarsfields held on for the win. This was a superb effort by the girls against the league champions and every single one of them can hold their heads up high. Player of the match was nicole McCann.

Match Report
The Minors travelled away to Davitt Park in Lurgan on Monday night to take on Clan Na Gael. With only three All County games remaining and being unbeaten this was the first time in six weeks that we had nearly a full squad to pick from. Playing against the breeze the home side started the quicker putting the first point on the board after two mins. The midfielders were struggling to judge the distance on kick-outs which resulted in the Clans having a ten min period of dominance which resulted in them being awarded a penalty only for the the ball being blasted wide. With the missed penalty and a positional change this seemed to kick a bit of life into the boys and from a kick-out the ball was worked the length of the field for Decky Loye to put the ball in the back of the net for our first score of the match. The teams traded points with the pick being a 30yrd point from the ever improving Mickey McGory. The match was evenly poised until a home player was sent to the line to leave us with an extra man for the rest of the game. The boys took advantage of the extra man by playing possession football which resulted in 2 quick goals one from the boot of Sean Thompson and another from an intercepted kick-out from Caolan Flanagan to put daylight between the two teams.
The second half was a matter of the boys not to get complacent and to drive on and that's what they done with some great football and fine points coming from Phelim Finnegan (0-6),Mark Keenan, Conor Loye and Ryan Courtney. To add to Clan Na Gaels woes they had another man sent to the line with 10 mins remaining which resulted in young Charlie Magill hitting the back off the net to complete a fine victory. We wish goalkeeper David Hankin a speedy recovery after taking a heavy fall towards the end of the game!!!! On the final whistle the boys won 4-12 0-10.
The boys travel away to Crossmaglen for the second time in the league next Monday 19th August in what seems to be a very strange decision by the minor board as the game should be a home fixture in the penultimate league game in what is sure to be a thriller, come along and give these young lads some vocal support.

Down Intermediate Ladies Championship Final
Bosco 0-11 Mayobridge 2-9
Bosco Ladies travelled to a boiling hot Clonduff on Saturday hoping to lift the Down ladies Intermediate Championship but Mayobridge had their own eyes on the title. Mo Rooneys team where confident going into the final but knew Mayobridge would be a massive hurdle to overcome and so it was clear when then Sky Blues took an early 1-2 to no score lead but the Newry girls battled back to make it 1-2 to 0-4 after 20 minutes and looked well in place to take the lead into halftime but the Mayobridge girls rode their luck and slotted over another few points before the Bosco girls rallied late on in the 1st half to leave 4 points in it at half time.
The Bosco ladies needed a good start but a couple of heavy knocks and late tackles forced them into making changes and every time the Bosco girls looked like getting back into the game the Mayobridge girls just seemed to get the rub of the green and continued to slot over the points. True to their fighting and battling form the Bosco girls showed all year the fought back again and with minutes left trailed by 4 points but no matter how hard they tried to get the vital goals the Mayobridge defence threw themselves at everything the Bosco had. At the final whistle it was clear form the Bosco,s body language that the girls had left everything on the pitch.
Speaking after the match Mo Rooney whilst dejected at the defeat praised his young team and highlighted that it took Mayobridge 4 years to win an Intermediate Championship and for his team to reach the final in its 1st year in the Intermediate League was nothing short of brilliant.
Mo went on to thank fellow coaches Pat and Maria Fox and the teams merry band of supporters who have travelled all over the County this season to watch the girls.
Club Chairman Joe Ryan spoke with the girls after the match and stated how proud he was at how far they have come in the last 3 years, he thanked them for their commitment to the club and the effort they all have put in and reassured them that another County Championship wont be long arriving.
Hard luck ladies, keep your heads up.
St John Bosco U14s
Bosco under 14 boys played their second championship game at home to Attical last Monday evening. This was a do or die game for both teams and proved to be a very even and exciting game.
Bosco opened the scoring with points from Ruairi Lavery and Rory Mc Parland. Attical responded with a few points of their own. With both teams going for all out attack the game flowed from end to end, both sides fought hard and there was no one giving an inch. Goals from Dean Morgan and Ryan Mc Aleavey seemed to give Bosco the edge but Attical got a goal before halftime to keep in touch. Halftime score Bosco 2-07 to 1-06.
The second half didn't start well for Bosco with Attical dominant in the first 10 minutes to the extent that our lead was wiped out. Bosco finally woke up and a goal from Kane Rossiter steadied the ship. The teams traded points before a second Kane Rossiter goal gave Bosco breathing space. Attical continued to work hard but the Bosco boys now had the bit between their teeth. Further scores from Dean Morgan(goal) Ruairi Lavery (goal) ensured a 6 point victory, final score Bosco 5-10 to Atticals 2-13.
Bosco now face Ballyholland in the semi-final on Monday 2nd September in Ballyholland, throw in 6.45pm

U12 Girls triumph at Burren Tournament
Saturday 24th August 2013
The Bosco u12 girls carried their excellent league form into the first of a number of County Tournaments held in Burren on Saturday. In the initial league format Bosco recorded comprehensive wins over Saval and Clonduff and in the other side of the draw the hosts Burren accounted for Rostrevor and Kilcoo to set up the final that most people wanted to see.
The teams had met twice this year in the league with Bosco having the upper hand on each occasion, but only narrowly.
In the early stages Bosco recorded two excellent points from Chloe Quinn and Nicola Downey. Burren, however, with strong home support responded quickly and following an interception in the midfield found the net to lead by one. The Bosco girls refused to panic and after some great work at the back by Eden Casey, the ball was moved quickly to Captain Aine McCabe on the right wing. The Burren backs were slow to close her down and Aine unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner to restore a 2 point lead.
The quality of these two teams was evident throughout the pitch and Burren added a point from a short free and then capitalised on some slack defending by Bosco for another to tie the game up at 1.02 each.
With the game heading for stalemate and extra time looming a piece of brilliance was required by someone. Bosco gained possession in midfield via Aine McCabe and the ball was threaded out to Aoibheann Quinn on the right wing. Aoibheann soled the ball along the sideline and from the narrowest of angles slotted the ball over the bar. The final whistle was greeted by celebrations among the Bosco players, mentors and parents and a very proud Aine McCabe stepped up to collect the Margaret King Cup.

Saturday 24th August P5/P6 Blitz venue Jack Mackin Park.
7 clubs with 14 teams of Gaels and Ógs competing this was a real festival of underage football. Refereed by An Riocht youth referees John and Michael O’Rourke points the blitz provided 26 games of great sportsmanship played in excellent conditions on a pitch in great condition. These competitions organised by the County Board provide a great stage upon which our young stars can be of their best.
With several players missing through injury, holidays and the scourge of Newry Gaelic – soccer, St John Bosco could still field 18 players and two teams. The lads, especially Guy Wallage, Dessie McAleavy, Joe Hanna and Josh Hanna played some of their best football ever in the Bosco amber and blue colours and had a great day out.
Next up for the U10’s is a home match on Wednesday evening in St Colman’s at 7:00 p.m. against An Riocht.

Carrickcruppen 2-11 Clann Eireann 1-8
In the Athletic Grounds the Senior Ladies contested the Senior Championship final against old rivals Clann Eireann. Cruppen settled the better and held lots of possession around the midfield dominated by Caroline O’Hanlon and Caitlin Malone. Rebecca O’Reilly was found free and slotted the ball over the bar to open Carrickcruppen’s account, both sides swapped scores when corner-back Amy Hughes was yellow carded for an off the ball offence, Cruppen upped their tempo from this moment and it often looked as though they had the extra player, points from Megan Cinnamond and Caroline O’Hanlon edged Cruppen in front before the impressive Lennon rifled the ball to the Clann Eireann net for the first goal of the game. Clann Eireann responded with a point but Natasha Lennon again increased Cruppen’s lead at the sound of the half time whistle on a scoreline of Carrickcruppen 1-5 Clann Eireann 0-4.
Carrickcruppen got off to a flyer at the start of the second half with points from Natasha Lennon, Megan Cinnamond and Aoife McCullough extended the lead 8 points, lack of discipline in the Clann Eireann team cost them dearly resulting in two of their players being sin-binned for 10 minute period each. They however responded well to this and reduced the deficit to 6 points. Caroline O’Hanlon fired over another point for Cruppen after a great individual solo run thru the middle of the field to send the Cruppen faithful into rapturous applause. Clann Eireann had other ideas scoring 1-2 and bringing themselves right back into the game with the goal coming from the penalty leaving just two points between the teams. Natasha Lennon pointed to put 3 in it when Caoimhe Murray was found free on the edge of the square and she blasted the ball to the net effectively ending the game as a contest, a point at the last from Caitlin Malone sealed a fantastic victory for Carrickcruppen and the supporters ecstatic. Carrickcruppen’s Marian McGuinness was the deservant winner of Player of the Match.
Team: Niamh Finnegan, Aileen Doran, Rebecca O’Reilly, Amy Hughes, Kerry Garvey, Marian McGuinness, Natasha Lennon, Caitlin Malone, Caroline O’Hanlon, Megan Cinnamond, Dearbhla Wright, Sinead Finnegan, Aoife McCullough, Caoimhe Murray, Rhia McCullough. Subs used: Anna Carr for Dearbhla Wright and Shauna O’Grady for Aoife McCullough
This victory is just rewards for the hard work and effort that they put in over the course of the season and congratulations go to the management team of Lorraine McCaffrey, Fionnuala McAtamney and Pat McGuinness and To Cathal Evans who helped trained the team during the year. Hopefully now they can move forward and get a good run in the Ulster Championship where they have a home fixture against the Fermanagh Champions in 6 weeks time.
Carrickcruppen Under 14's win Division 2 Championship - Carrickcruppen 5-14 Silverbridge 5-9
Earlier on Sunday the Under 14 girls took on the favourites Silverbridge in the final of the Championship. Carrickcruppen had been outstanding in this game from start to finish with every one of the girls playing their part to ensure that the Cup came back to Lowes Lane. The worked hard for the each other and showed tremendous courage and determination right throughout the game. A lot of hard work and effort went into preparing this team from the start of the year and we offer our appreciation to Sean O’Grady, Claire McArdle, Edel Fearon who managed the team and to Cathal Evans who trained the team throughout the season and it showed on the field as some of the skills and movement was excellent. The final scoreline was Carrickcruppen 5-14 Silverbridge 5-9

Under 14 league game
Ballymacnab v Corrinshego 2 - 10 V 5 – 19
So often in the past this away fixture on the calendar brought a tight affair which usually ended in defeat but not this time. Right from the start the Corrinshego u14 team were on top of their counterparts. From full back to full forward each individual played their role well and by half time the game was well won. The scoreline read 3-10 to 0-4 at the break and as usual Adam Loughran was the pick of the forwards, with six points in the opening period, the pick of them being a 45 which he pumped over with ease. It was a half where full forward Ryan Connolly also shone, scoring a goal and a point but it was the picking out of his team mates selflessly time and again that impressed his coaches. Ryan Gray also got on the scoresheet before he was substituted at half time for Glenn Murray.
The second half saw more of the same, however goals were in shorter supply and the away side conceded 2 in the second period, before they shored things up at the back through captain Niall McShane who deserved the 3 points he scored from open play. McShane is beginning to show some promise as a potential Corrinshego player of the future, as is midfielder and Armagh Development Squad player Conor Jennings, who gave a masterly display in how to play 'the big midfielder' throughout the game. Even with these fine performances it was Liam McKeown who actually stole the show, who may have found a more comfortable role to play, as he was outstanding at half forward and topped it off with a fine goal in the first half.
A welcome return to winning ways for the boys and a home game against table toppers Maghery is up next on Tuesday night. Well done boys!

Carraig Chropain 2-04 Tomás Dáibhis 2-13
Thomas Davis Under 16’s got their All County league campaign back on track after a lengthy layoff with a comprehensive victory over near neighbours Carrickcruppen last Thursday night in front of a sizeable crowd. Both sides had met earlier in the South Armagh League program with Carrickcruppen taking the spoils in that encounter so the Newry side were very keen to make amends. We started very well with some excellent scores from Lee Courtney, Caolan Marron (0-2) & Declan Loye to give us a 4 point advantage before the home side registered their first score from play. Both sides seemed evenly matched around the middle sector but time again our ability to win the breaking proved crucial to give good quality ball into our forwards where Caolan Marron was causing havoc and further increased our lead with an excellent score after great approach work from Jonny Tumilty & Jordan Mackey. Our lads keep the scoreboard ticking as the home side tried hard to get a foothold but our defence was solid throughout, with Brendan McCorry , Dean Faloon & Shane Keenan outstanding denying their opponents any space to leave the score 0-08 to 0-02 in our favour at halftime.
As expected Carrickcruppen came out all guns blazing to reel off 2 good scores from play but we weathered the storm well and a well worked move from our own defence allowed corner forward Caolan Marron to slot the ball away for his first goal on the night. This didn’t deflate the Cruppen team as they battled back and hit a goal to get back into it and moments later they registered their second major after their initial shot was well saved by keeper Ronan McMahon but the rebound was put to the net. The comeback seemed on the cards but the Newry Side never panicked and great leadership was shown by Declan Loye, Keyonis Crozier & Lee Courtney to lift the siege and play the game in the Cruppen half where we finished the game off with a second Caolan Marron goal and 4 points from Declan Loye, Aaron Cinnamond & Jordan Mackey in a five minute spell. Matthew Loughran & Conor Jennings were introduced into the forwards & did great work winning ball and making sure the opposition got no time to build from the back to seal a great win and claim the valuable league points. Great performances from every player on the park with Declan Loye, Lee Courtney, Aaron Cinnamond & Brendan McCorry having exceptional games on the night. Next games Thursday 29 August versus Ballyhegan at home & Sunday 01 September Ballymacnab at home in the semi-final of Shield.
Training continues every Sunday Morning at 10.45am at the Club Grounds. New members welcome. Contact Anthony Havern 07805853032

MATCH REPORT
The minors travelled to Crossmaglen for the second time this year hoping to secure a similar result. With both teams going into this penultimate All County League game undefeated the result was going to have a major impact in the winning of the league campaign. With the throw in at 7.15pm both teams on the pitch the non appearance of the referee was a disappointment to the large number of supporters gathered, after a few phone calls a local Crossmaglen referee helped out for the game to proceed.
The boys got off to a flying start with the first point of the game coming from the boot of Conor Loye after two minutes. The next 15 mins it was all the away side with possession of the ball and another brace of points from Ryan McSherry, Phelim Finnegan and Decky Loye. The home side rattled over two points then came a goal from this years top goal scorer Decky Loye to leave the minors 1-5 0-2 . All seemed to be going well until a great save from David Hankin in nets to parry the ball away from a decent shot fell at the edge of the square only for the Crossmaglen forward to toe-poke the ball into the empty net. Each side traded some great points until halftime with the scores having the minors in front by a single point. A one point lead didn't reflect the effort and dominance the boys had in the first half.
The second half started the way the first half finished with each side trading points. The first break through come for the away side when a super 50yrd run from Lee Courtney ended up in the back of the net with a thunderous shot into the roof of the net to seemingly put a bit of breathing space between the two teams. As on many occasions in football it is often said teams are at their most vulnerable after they have scored and this was to be the case, from a free kick to the minors in a score-able position the ball landed short and Crossmaglen worked the ball the length of the field to raise the green flag. Once again there was nothing between the two teams in an exhilarating game until the minors were once again hit by a sucker punch from a blocked shot the ball once again was worked the distance for the flag to be raised again. This was to be the killer blow on the night with the boys trying to push on for scores Crossmaglen tagged over another few points in the dying mins to leave the score at the final whistle 3-13 2-11. Although bitterly disappointed the minors put in a great shift and from leading by two points with ten minutes to go and losing by five didn't do them justice. With another few players to come back from injury these boys can give the Championship a good rattle in the next few weeks and maybe get another shot at Crossmaglen in a neutral venue with the results this year between each other one victory each this match up could become a trilogy.

Craobh Rua Camlocha Hurlers really did create history at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh yesterday when they lifted the Armagh Hurling title for the first time in a pulsating contest against a gallant Sean Treacys of Lurgan.
The Lurgan side who went into the game as favourites scored a first minute goal and with a further eight points scored went in at half time holding a 1-8 to 0-6 lead.
A determined effort in the second half by the Camloch based club spearheaded by Eoghan Robb and a well taken Fionnán Burns goal early in the half saw them win the title by the narrowest of margins 1-12 to 1-11.
It was an all round sound team performance with players giving a committed and skilful display. In the latter stages of the game the defence led by full back Mark Fleming remained steadfast and denied the Lurgan team any opportunity to take the game to extra time.
The Craobh Rua team Ryan Lundy, Hugh Hanna, Mark Fleming, Colm Creaney,Mícheal Doran, Michael Garvey (Captain),Seán Casey,Fiachra Bradley,Ryan Lewis,Conor Devlin,Micheál Bradley, Fionnán Burns,Joseph O Connor, Paul Cunningham,Eoghan Robb,Darragh McNulty,Kyle Kane,Aodhan Nutley,Louis Doyle,Christopher Flynn, Jay O Hare,Patrick O Connor,Damien Britton,Michael Lewis,Brian Mc Kevitt. The team managers Paddy Brady, David Treanor assisted by John Crossey, Aodhan Magennis and Physio John Mc Auley
There were scenes of genuine delight at the final whistle when players past and present realised that their long challenge to lift the Armagh title had finally been overcome!
